Principal's Message

Welcome to Johnson Elementary, home of the Eagles. Our principal is Mrs. Jamie Gilliam, a lifelong Laurel County resident. Mrs. Gilliam received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at Eastern Kentucky University and a graduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Educational Leadership. Open House Open House

We invite you to attend our Open House for students in grades 1st - 5th on Tuesday, August 7th from 6:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M.  Come and meet your child's teacher for the new school year.  

Kindergarten Orientation Kindergarten Orientation

Kindergarten Orientation will be on Thursday, August 7th beginning at 5:30 P.M.  Parents will need to bring their incoming Kindergarten student because there will be a school tour after orientation is finished.

*Backpack (no wheels)
*Blunt tip scissors
*48 pencils (#2 lead & no plastic coatings as they do not sharpen in the pencil sharpener)
*2 packs of Crayola Crayons- 24 pack no larger
*Glue sticks (8-10 sticks)
*2 Plastic/vinyl 2 pocket folders with the 3-prong insert for paper (The brand 5 Star holds up the best)
*Pencil cap erasers
*Pack of block erasers
*2-3-hole punched zipper pencil pouches for use in folders
*2 single subject wide ruled spiral bound notebooks
1 Box of Large Ziplocks

Other supplies that would be greatly appreciated anytime throughout the year:

*Lysol or baby wipes
*Zip-lock bags
*Pair of socks (to be used as erasers on student white boards)

Arts First Aid Grant Kentucky Arts Council

Johnson Elementary has been awarded $5,500 for the Arts First Aid Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council!  The money from this grant will be used to provide administrators, teachers and students with quality, intensive arts education experiences for the 2018-2019 school year.  We are excited to be able to have artists from across the state to come to Johnson Elementary to provide hands on experiences with our students during the upcoming school year.  You can find out more information about the Kentucky Arts Council by visiting their website at www.artscouncil.ky.gov.

Johnson Elementary Has Been Named A National Blue Ribbon School Johnson Eagles

We are honored to announce that Johnson Elementary was named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School!  This award was given away in Washington, D.C. in November. Congratulations to the Johnson Elementary staff and students on a job well done!
