National School Bus Safety Week, Oct 17-21

Student Safety is of paramount importance in the Laurel County Schools.  Mr. Bob Myers, Director of Transportation says “we are fortunate to have an updated fleet of buses that are utilized to transport thousands of students to and from school on a daily basis, but more importantly the families and students are provided with high quality transportation services by qualified bus drivers.”

Drivers are up early every day preparing for the pick-up and delivery of their precious passengers---our students!  Drivers maintain a clean and safe operation so that students are as comfortable as possible during transit.  "Our bus drivers take their work seriously and work diligently to provide a very safe ride for all students that does not allow for horse play or other inappropriate behaviors that may cause significant disruption or injury," says Myers.

The Transportation Services Department have recently implemented a number of technological advances with the bus fleet to include global positioning systems (GPS) to accurately track the locations of buses in real time.  Additionally, the transportation department has implemented a new driving simulator for the training of drivers which can increase situational awareness and improve safety of passengers.   Student safety and bus drivers are to be appreciated by everyone especially the families and commuters on the roads everyday!
