CONGRATUALTIONS to our Camp Ground Spelling Bee Winners!  Jaren Overbey came in 1st place and Reece Weaver came in 2nd place.  Both will compete in district spelling bee in January.

 

Christmas Family Reading Night reading night

We will be having a Gingerbread Christmas Family Reading Night on Thursday December 7th from 4:30-6:30 pm.  Our Holiday book fair will be open that night too, so parents and students can shop.  Along with the book fair other activities include:

Book Fair book fair

Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read!  Come to our Book Fair.  We will be having a 3 day Holiday book fair Wednesday Decmber 6th -Friday December 8th.  Students will be able to visit the book fair during school hours those 3 days.

Gingerbread House Contest gingerbread house

We are seeking out confection creativity for our Gingerbread contest.  We will be having a gingerbread house decorating contest from Friday December 1st-Thursday December 7th.  Below is a list of rules for the contest:

 

  • Your creation doesn't have to be a house.  It can be a barn, church, castle, some other structure, or even a local church.
  • Creations can be dropped off beginning Friday December 1st-Thursday December 7th.
  • Creations must be picked up by Friday December 8th.
  • Attach a 3x5 index card listing the title of your creation and your name.
  • Creations must be constructed mainly of gingerbread and icing.  Gingerbread kits are fine too.
  • It must be made of edible materials with the exception of the surface it is mounted on.
  • The display must be mounted on a piece of plywood or cardboard no larger than 20x20.
  • Students, teachers, and parents will vote for their favorite during Family Reading Night on Thursday December 7th.  The winners will be announced on Friday December 8th.

A note will be sent home with all the above information on it.

Author Angie Spady

Author of the Channing O'Banning books, Angie Spady will be visiting our school on Thursday March 31st.  We are pre-selling her books and she will autograph them when she is here.  Channing O'Banning books are $7.00 and her Diva Diaries book is $10.00.  Students will be given a flier to order their books on.  Please return the flier and money to Mrs. Osborne by Friday March 18th.  If you don't preorder we can't guarantee you a book the day she is here.

Thursday September 24th is High Attendance Day!!  We are going "Bananas" for High Attendance.  Prizes will be given away every 30 minutes to students who are at school on Thursday September 24th.  Students may also dress up like a minion or a banana.  If we meet our goal of 98% we will get to turn Mr. Wells into a human banana split!

Michael Finklea, Author Visit

Michael Finklea, a children's author will be visiting our school on Tuesday September 21st.  He will be talking with our students and then students will have a chance to purchase his books and get them signed by Mr. Finklea.  A flier will be sent home, with more information on the books that will be for sale.  Click on the link below to visit Mr. Finklea's website.

Tuesday September 15th is International Dot Day.  So make your mark and wear dots on Tuesday September 15th  to celebrate Dot Day.

Hawg Wild For Reading

Come join us for a night of reading, crafts, and food!!  Monday September 14th from 5:30-7:00 pm we will be going "Hawg Wild for Reading."  PTO will be serving a BBQ dinner.  The cost is $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for children and includes; BBQ sandwich, coleslaw, chips, dessert, and drink.

So come out to Camp Ground and get "Hawg Wild for Reading!"

*Those who attend this event will get their name put in a drawing to win a FREE book!

Cheerleading and Basketball Tryouts

4th and 5th grade Cheerleading and Basketball Tryouts will be Monday September 14-Friday September 18 from 3:30-4:45. You MUST have your physical turned in before you can try out.

Back To School Dance

Back to School dance is Friday August 28th from 3:30-5:30.  The cost is $3.00 and you must send your permission slip back signed in order to attend.  Concession stand will be available for students to purchase items.

Ice Cream Sales

Ice cream sales will begin on Friday August 21st.  Students can purchase ice cream for $1.00 or the mini melts for $3.00.  Ice cream will only be sold on Fridays and you must bring extra money to purchase it.  It does not come out of the students lunch account.

Camp Ground Elementary PTO will be meeting Wednesday August 19th at 5:30 pm.  Please come out and support our school.

Come join us on Tuesday April 21st from 5-7 pm for family reading night and a PTO cookout.  It will be a night of good food and READING!!  This is a great opportunity to build up your AR points!!  Hope to see you there!!

Third Nine Weeks AR Party

The third nine weeks AR party will be Friday April 3rd.  You have until Thursday April 2nd at 2:30 p.m. to meet your AR goal for the third nine weeks.  Remember you not only have to have your points, but you also have to have 85% accuracy on your tests.  So READ READ READ!! 

Dr. Seuss Day

Since we missed most of Dr. Seuss week last week we are going to do have a Dr. Seuss day this Friday March 13th.  You may choose to wear your favorite pair of pajamas OR you may dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character!! 

Breakfast With Grandparents

Our Breakfast With Grandparents is back again!! We will be providing breakfast for grandparents on Thursday October 6th and Friday October 7th from 7:45 am-8:30am.  The book fair will also be open during this time, so come on in and shop at our book fair with your grandchildren.  Below is the schedule for our breakfast with grandparents.

Aesop's Fables

Bright Stars Theatre will be making a stop at our school on Tuesday March 17th at 1:30 to perform Aesop's Fables for all our students.

Book Fair

Our spring book fair will be March 16th-20th.  The book fair will be open from 7:30am-2:30pm every day.  It will also be open during parent teacher conferences on Tuesday March 17th from 4:00-7:00 pm.

Art Show

Camp Ground Elementary's annual Art Show will be Tuesday March 17th from 4:00-7:00 pm.  Students have been working very hard the past couple of weeks designing art projects based off of famous artists.  Come out and view the artists of Camp Ground Elementary!

Read Across America Week (Dr.Seuss Week)

March 2-6 is Read Across America Week, in honor of Dr. Seuss.  During this week we will have different themes every day that go along with a Dr. Seuss book.  Below is a list of the themes for each day!

The Laurel County district spelling bee will be Thursday February 12th at 6:30 pm at South Laurel Middle School.  Come out and support our students.

Christmas Break

Christmas Break will begin on Monday December 22nd and students will return on Monday January 5th.  Have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year!

Movies

All students at Camp Ground will be taking a field trip to the movies on Thursday December 18th.  We will leave the school at 8:30 am and return around 11:30 am.  Please remember to turn in your permission slip and money to your teacher.

Frozen Christmas Program

Our annual Christmas program will be on Wednesday December 17th.  Classrooms will be singing songs from the hit movie Frozen along with  some classic, traditional Christmas songs.

Ronald McDonald Visit

Ronald McDonald will be visiting our school on Wednesday December 3rd at 1:00 pm.

Camp Ground Christmas Festival

Come join us on Saturday November 15th for our annual Christmas Festival.  There will be food, games, crafts, live performances, Santa pictures, and a special appearance from Ana and Elsa from Frozen.

Food, games, crafts, performances, and the silent auction will be from 4:00-7:00 pm.  There will be a live auction that follows from 7:00 pm-9:00pm.

Veteran's Day Program

Come join us on Monday November 10th at 1:30 as we honor our veteran's with a special program performed by Camp Ground Elementary students.

Breakfast With Grandparents

We want to invite all of our grandparents out for our Breakfast With Grandparents event on Thursday October 6th and Friday October 7th from 7:45-8:30AM.  Check below for your child's assigned day.  We look forward to seeing you all there!

September Accelerated Reader Winners kids

Congratulation to the September Accelerated Reader Winners.  They had the most AR points in their classrooms and received extra recess!

 

 

September 20th High Attendance Day!

Attendance HERO

Thursday, September 20th, has been designated state-wide as “High Attendance Day” for Kentucky schools.  This day highlights the importance of regular school attendance and the correlation between attendance and student performance.  Students who attend class regularly are more likely to keep up with their daily lessons, assignments, and academic achievement. 

Awards will be distributed statewide based on each individual school’s attendance percentage.  The school in each category (elementary, middle and high) with highest percentage attendance for that day will be awarded $500!

Let’s strive for 100% attendance on Thursday, September 20th and everyday!

We will be having a Spring Fling dance on Friday April 15th from 5:30-7:30.  This will be a drop off dance, so you will need to drop your child off at 5:30 and pick them back up at 7:30.  Cost to attend is $3.00 and concessions and pictures will be sold during the dance.

Muffins with Moms will be Wednesday May 4th from 7:30-8:30 in the morning.  Come enjoy some muffins, crafts, and reading.

Camp Ground FPS Placed First in District Tournament

Camp Ground Future Problem Solving team placed 1st in the District Tournment.  The members are Kinley Tincher, Gracie Thornhill, Milla Binder, Emma Parman, and Gracie Turner

Our annual Yankee Candle Fundraiser is underway!  Please have all orders and money turned in by Wednesday September 12th.  Remember the more items you sale the more prizes you will receive.  All of the money goes to the Camp Ground PTO, so they can provide things for our students and school.

Egg Drop egg

Our school will be participating in an Egg Drop Friday September 21st  to help celebrate the World Chicken Festival.  The goal of this project is to design a way to protect a raw egg that will be dropped off the roof of the school to the ground below.  Bring your projects to school WITH A RAW EGG IN IT, on Friday September 21st.  WE WILL NOT BE PROVIDING AN EGG!  We look forward to seeing all the wonderful projects and GOOD LUCK!

Get your dancing shoes on!  Our annual Back to School dance will be on Friday September 8th from 3:30-5:30.  Admission is $3.00 and concessions will be sold.  The money and permission slip must be turned into your teacher by Wednesday September 6th.  Students can be picked up promptly at 5:30. You must have your ID in order to pick up students. 

Give a Book, Take a Book- Family Reading Night Book Swap

Come join us on Thursday September 8th from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm in the Camp Ground library for our first annual Family Reading Night Book Swap.

Bring in 1 to 3 gently used, age appropriate, (K-5)  books and swap them for other gently used books.  FREE snacks will be provided and you will also be able to read and earn AR points.  We hope to see you there!!

Basketball and Cheerleading Tryouts jacket

4th and 5th grade girls and boys basketball and cheerleading tryouts begin on Monday September 10th-Friday September 15th from 3:30-5:00.  If you are interested in trying out you must have your physical turned in by Monday September 10th.  We will not accept any physicals after this date.

Haunted Library/PTO Chili Supper haunted house

Camp Ground Library and Camp Ground PTO present the Haunted Library on Monday October 22nd from 5:00-7:00 pm.  Come out and join us for a family reading night of spooky storytelling.  It will be a little bit scary and a whole lot of fun!  There will also be games and candy!  You may wear your trick or treat costumes.  PTO will be selling homemade chili with drinks and desert.  It's $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.  CAN'T WAIT TO SCARE... I MEAN... SEE YOU THERE!!!

Family Movie Night

Camp Ground Elementary invites you and your family to join us for Family Movie Night on Friday March 27th.  Doors will open at 6:00 pm and the movie, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (PG) will begin promptly at 6:30 pm.

 

Admission is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.  Concessions will be available before and during the movie.

 

Children MUST be accompanied by an adult.  It is a FAMILY event.

 

You may bring blankets, pillows, and sleeping bags and wear your comfortable clothing.

The Camp Ground PTO Yankee Candle Fundraiser is in full swing.  Contact a student or staff member to place your order today!  Have family out of town?  No problem.  If they have an email address, they can support our fundraiser.  The order will ship directly to them!  All Profits go toward providing programs for all students to enjoy and our special fundraising project this year is to purchase an I Pad cart for the school.  Thanks to all who help support our school!

 

Camp Ground Cafe To Sell Little Cesear's Pizza on Friday

The Camp Ground Cafe will sell Little Cesear's pizza slices for $1.00 each this Friday, August 16th.  Also, all student accounts are set up so that the cafe can accept milk money for all students!

Camp Ground PTO Schedules a Special Called Meeting

The Camp Ground Elementary PTO will have a special called meeting to discuss changes in roles for the recently elected PTO officers. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th and will be held at the school beginning at 1:00 PM. All parents and staff are invited to attend this meeting.

Camp Ground Elementary Kindergarten Graduation

Camp Ground Elementary is pleased to announce our 2013 Kindergarten Graduation will take place on May 16th at 6:00 PM in the school gym. 

We are so proud of the accomplishments these students have made and hope you join us in honoring them.  Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Camp Ground History Fair Rescheduled

The Camp Ground History Fair has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 14th. Parents may go to the gym and view projects during parent/teacher conferences after school that day.  If you have questions, please contact the school.  Thank you.

Camp Ground Basketball Tryouts

Camp Ground Summer Reading Program

Dream Big, Camp Ground's summer reading program will begin on Tuesday, May 22nd.  Parents may drop off their child at 9:30 at the back door of the library and return to pick up their child at 11:30.  Parents must come in to sign their child out of the program.  We will read books, make crafts, play games and take AR tests.  Let's avoid the "summer slide" that often happens when students are off for a long summer... We can't wait to see you there!  Click here or call the school for more information!

Elementary Academic Team Tournament Cancelled

The Laurel County Elementary Academic Team Tournament scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.  It has been rescheduled for Monday, February 27th at 6:00PM.

Valentine's Dance Rescheduled

Due to the Winter Weather Advisory which has been forecast for our area we are rescheduling the Valentine's Dance for next Friday, February 17th.  We are sorry for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing you next week!

Camp Ground PTO is proud to present the Knoxville Zoo's presentation, "Winged Wonders."  The Zoo rolls into Camp Ground on Friday, December 9th at 12:30 PM.  Staff and Students are excited and can't wait for this exciting event!

Book Potato Decorating Contest potato

We will be having a Book Character Potato Decorating Contest during Read Across America Week.  Students can decorate a potato like a character from one of their favorite books.  Please be sure to put your name somewhere on your potato.  Potatoes can be brought in beginning on Monday February 26th and the last day to bring them in is Thursday March 1st.  Students will vote on their favorite Book Potato on Friday March 2nd. 

The top 3 potatoes will receive the following award:

The GREAT Pumpkin Show pumpkin

We are planning our annual book character Pumpkin Show.  This family project is always a smashing success and we are ready to see what you can come up with this year.  Students may bring in a pumpkin decorated like their favorite book or book character.  Pumpkins may be dropped off at the library ONLY from Wednesday October 24th-Friday October 26th.  There will be 4 categories this year, PreK-1, 2-3, 4-5, and Family.  There will be 1 winner from each category.  A letter and entry form will be sent home with more details.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campain in the country.  At school, we like to dress up to celebrate ways to say no to drugs.  We encourage all students and staff to join in and participate during this fun week, Monday October 26-Friday October 30. 

Monday- Pajama Day- Don't let drugs get in the way of following your dreams. Wear school appropriate pajamas.

Tuesday- Nerd Day- Be too smart to start. Wear your best nerd attire.

Wednesday- Team Day- Be a team player and help stomp out drugs.  Wear your favorite sports team shirt/jersey.

Thursday- Red Day- A red ribbon is the national symbol for drug prevention.  Wear as much red as possible (shirt, pants, socks, shoes, etc.)

Friday- Costume Day- You can't disguise it, drugs are bad.  Dress up in your costume.  Reminder: no masks, toy weapons, or face paint to distract from learning.

Shooting Stars Showcase

Saturday October 10th the boys and girls basketball teams and cheerleaders will be participating in the Shooting Stars Showcase.  It will be held at North Laurel High School.  Girls will play Johnson at 10:00 and the boys will play Johnson at 11:10.  Cheerleaders will perform at halftime of both games.  All day admission is $5.00.

Camp Ground Christmas Festival

Christmas time is a 'coming and Camp Ground is celebrating... Join us December 1st for an exciting day of Christmas Fun.  Beginning at 4 PM we will have performances featuring local students and community groups, delicious food, crafts, and games all with a Christmas theme.  Everyone's favorite Christmas visitor, SANTA, will be there... Plan to bring the whole family and have pictures made with Santa and give him your list of Christmas wishes!  An auction will follow beginning at 7 PM.  Decorated Christmas trees, wreaths, and baskets of items will be auctioned.  All proceeds go directly to the PTO to support the student activities planned for the school year.

The Family Resource Centers of Bush, Camp Ground, and Johnson Elementaries are starting their food and hygiene drive for the holidays.  Students from Camp Ground who would like to help should bring Macaroni & Cheese, Cake Mix, Soap, and Deodorant.  Items collected will be taken to St. Williams to make Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for folks who need a little extra help during the holiday season.  Notes explaining the program will come home with students.  For further information, contact our local family resource center and ask for Kelly, Melinda, or Laverne.  Thanks to all who help make the holidays a little brighter for everyone!

Camp Ground Spelling Bee Participants


The following students competed in the Camp Ground Elementary Spelling Bee.  First place winner was Ty Baker and Runner up was Audia Collins.  These two boys represented Camp Ground at the district level in the district bee at Bush Elementary School.  Congratulations, students!

PTO Santa Shop
The Camp Ground PTO will  have their annual Santa Shop open the week of December 12- December 16th.  Students may bring money to choose gifts for those special people on their list!

Pumpkin Show
The 2011 Camp Ground Pumpkin Show is in full swing!  Parents and students are bringing pumpkins dressed as storybook characters to the school each day and they are super creative this year!

Summer Reading Program summer reading

Summer is fast approaching and we want to make sure that you have an opportunity to get some reading in.  We will be having a summer reading program for all students who will be attending Camp Ground during the 2017/2018 school year.  A packet will be sent home with all the information that you will need to compete the program.  The students that complete the program and bring their packets back when school starts will get to attend the Back to School Reading Party in August.

The Camp Ground library will be open the following dates and times during the summer.  You will be able to come in and read and take tests and complete your summer reading packet.  The AR points you earn this summer will count toward your points for next year.

April Showers Read For Hours!  Come join us for our final reading night of the year on Tuesday April 11th from 5:00-7:00 pm.  You will be able to read and take AR tests.  There will be free snacks and drinks.  The UNITE club will be having games and you will get to take home a FREE plant!  Hope to see you there!!

Camp Ground Kindness- Operation Christmas Child

Camp Ground 2nd graders have been learning about Kindness in their reading class and have decided to partner with Samaritan's Purse and collect items to send to children in need across the world at Christmas.  Our school goal as a school is to fill 100 boxes.  Below is a list of items that can be brought in to help fill the boxes.  Please join us as we work to help make a child's Christmas special.  Thank you in advance for your help in making this possible.

All items need to be unopened and left in packaging.

All Camp Ground students will be attending the Corbin movies on Friday December 18th  to watch the Peanuts movie.  Please remember to turn in your permission slip and money to your teacher.  Students can also wear pajamas that day as well. 

Breakfast with Grandparents

Attention All Grandparent's!!  Come enjoy breakfast with your grandchild!!  Wednesday November 4th and Thursday November 5th from 7:30 am-8:15 am.  Cost is $2.25.  You will also have an opportunity to visit the Monster Bookfair with your grandchild.  The schedule for Breakfast with Grandparent's is below.  Please enter through the cafeteria doors.

Halloween Dance

Friday October 30th is the Halloween Dance.  It will be from 3:30-5:30.  Students may wear their costumes.  The cost is $3.00 to attend.  Flashy Blinky items and concessions will be sold.

It's a Pumpkin Show

It's time for our annual Pumpkin Show.  Decorate a pumpkin as your favorite book character (No Carving Please!).  Pumpkin book characters can be turned in at the library starting on Monday October 5th, but must be here by Friday October 9th in order to be judged.  Prizes and certificates will be awarded for the top 3 best, most creative pumpkins.  No pumpkins allowed on the bus, parents must bring them and take them home.  All pumpkins must be picked up by Wednesday October 14th.

Camp Ground Library Bookfair

The Camp Ground Libary is a cool place to discover hot books!  The Scholastic bookfair will be in the school library beginning Monday, October 7 through Friday, October 11th.  Students may bring cash or checks made payable to Camp Ground Elementary School.  Students will visit the bookfair during their special class time.  Reading is the most important skill a child learns... be sure to take advantage of this oppotunity to purchase affordable books your child can read and keep at home!

AR Splash Party
Students who met their AR goal for the 4th marking period were invited to join the AR SPLASH party on Monday, May 7th.  In order to participate he/she had to meet the AR goal set for them by their homeroom teacher as well as maintain at least an 85% average based on the number of tests they completed and passed.  Students participated in many fun activities planned such as: wet sponge races, water balloon toss, bubble blowing station, water bucket races and much, much more.

Christmas Break: December 21, 2011- January 2, 2012

Our spring bookfair will be Monday March 7-Friday March 11.  It will be open from 7:30 am- 2:30 pm.  There will be other opportunities for parents and grandparents to shop at the bookfair.  Credit Cards will be accepted this year.

Camp Ground Academic Team Governor's Cup District 109 Champions

Congratulations to the Camp Ground Academic Team!! They won the Governor's Cup competition for District 109.  They will go on to compete in the Regional Tournament later in March at London Elementary.  The following students won individual awards in written assessments:

Appalachian Musical Journey
Students at Camp Ground enjoyed a program featuring a Musical Journey through Appalachia.  This program featuring musicians Lorinda Jones and Mark Goodman demonstrated Appalachian Music using the dulcimer, autoharp, banjo and much more.  Enjoy this video of our talented staff joining in with the spoons and washboard!

Veteran's Day Breakfast/Program veterans day

Calling all Veteran's!  If you are a veteran we would like to invite you to come and enjoy breakfast and a program put on by our students to honor you and your sacrifice you made for our country. Breakfast will begin at 8:15 a.m on Friday November 9th followed by a program in the gym at 9:00 a.m.  We hope to see you there.

Parent/Teacher Conference school

Parent/Teacher Conference will be on Monday October 8th from 4:10 pm-6:50 pm.  A note will be sent home to let you know when you can start making appointments with your child's teacher.  You will have until Thursday October 4th to make your appointment.  No appointments will be made after this date.  The book fair will also be open during this time.

Camp Ground Summer Reading Program

We will be participating in a Book Scouts Summer Reading program.  This program is for all students that will be attending Camp Ground during the 2016/2017 school year.  This program is optional, however, if you complete the program you will be able to attend the Back to School Reading party in August.

Camp Read A Lot

Do you like camping?  Do you like reading?  If you do then Camp Read A Lot is for you!

Camp Ground library will be open Monday June 6th-Thursday June 9th from 9:00 am -12:00 pm for Camp Read A Lot.

Activities include: Camp storytime everyday at 10:00 am, camping crafts, build up AR points for next year, work on book scout badges, and get your library summer visit log signed.

Come view your child's art work at our Camp Ground Art Show.  Art work will be displayed in the cafeteria during parent teacher conference on Thursday March 10th from 4:00-7:00 pm.

Camp Ground Spelling Bee Winners

Congratulations Justin Scalf, Camp Ground Spelling Bee Champion, and Brookelyn Jackson Camp Ground Spelling Bee Runner Up.  They will compete in the District Spelling Bee on Thursday February 11th at 6:30 pm at South Laurel Middle School.

Box Tops

It's Box Tops Competition Time!!  Turn in your box tops to your teacher from September 1st-October 14th.  The class with the most box tops will receive a Fall Celebration Party!  All box tops earn money for our school.  Happy Clipping!

Congratulations students and staff!!  The 2014-2015 Kprep test scores have been released and Camp Ground is a School of Distinction!!  Our school scored in the 96th percentile overall.  We are ranked #50 in the state!! Way to go Yellow Jackets!!
