Author of the Channing O'Banning books, Angie Spady will be visiting our school on Thursday March 31st. We are pre-selling her books and she will autograph them when she is here. Channing O'Banning books are $7.00 and her Diva Diaries book is $10.00. Students will be given a flier to order their books on. Please return the flier and money to Mrs. Osborne by Friday March 18th. If you don't preorder we can't guarantee you a book the day she is here.
Thursday September 24th is High Attendance Day!! We are going "Bananas" for High Attendance. Prizes will be given away every 30 minutes to students who are at school on Thursday September 24th. Students may also dress up like a minion or a banana. If we meet our goal of 98% we will get to turn Mr. Wells into a human banana split!
Michael Finklea, a children's author will be visiting our school on Tuesday September 21st. He will be talking with our students and then students will have a chance to purchase his books and get them signed by Mr. Finklea. Tuesday September 15th is International Dot Day. So make your mark and wear dots on Tuesday September 15th to celebrate Dot Day.
Come join us for a night of reading, crafts, and food!! Monday September 14th from 5:30-7:00 pm we will be going "Hawg Wild for Reading." PTO will be serving a BBQ dinner. The cost is $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for children and includes; BBQ sandwich, coleslaw, chips, dessert, and drink.

Back to School dance is Friday August 28th from 3:30-5:30. The cost is $3.00 and you must send your permission slip back signed in order to attend. Concession stand will be available for students to purchase items.
Ice cream sales will begin on Friday August 21st. Students can purchase ice cream for $1.00 or the mini melts for $3.00. Ice cream will only be sold on Fridays and you must bring extra money to purchase it. It does not come out of the students lunch account.

Bright Stars Theatre will be making a stop at our school on Tuesday March 17th at 1:30 to perform Aesop's Fables for all our students.

Thursday, September 20th, has been designated state-wide as “High Attendance Day” for Kentucky schools. This day highlights the importance of regular school attendance and the correlation between attendance and student performance. Students who attend class regularly are more likely to keep up with their daily lessons, assignments, and academic achievement.
Awards will be distributed statewide based on each individual school’s attendance percentage. The school in each category (elementary, middle and high) with highest percentage attendance for that day will be awarded $500!
Let’s strive for 100% attendance on Thursday, September 20th and everyday!

Our school will be participating in an Egg Drop Friday September 21st to help celebrate the World Chicken Festival. The goal of this project is to design a way to protect a raw egg that will be dropped off the roof of the school to the ground below. Camp Ground Elementary invites you and your family to join us for Family Movie Night on Friday March 27th. Doors will open at 6:00 pm and the movie, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (PG) will begin promptly at 6:30 pm.
Admission is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. Concessions will be available before and during the movie.

We will be having a Book Character Potato Decorating Contest during Read Across America Week. Students can decorate a potato like a character from one of their favorite books. Please be sure to put your name somewhere on your potato. Potatoes can be brought in beginning on Monday February 26th and the last day to bring them in is Thursday March 1st. Students will vote on their favorite Book Potato on Friday March 2nd.

Your invited to Christmas At The Movies. Our annual Christmas sing a long will be on Tuesday December 18th. Kindergarten-2nd grade will perform at 8:30 am and 3rd-5th grade will perform at 10:00 am. Come out and enjoy some holiday music from some of your favorite Christmas movies.
We are planning our annual book character Pumpkin Show. This family project is always a smashing success and we are ready to see what you can come up with this year. Students may bring in a pumpkin decorated like their favorite book or book character. Pumpkins may be dropped off at the library ONLY from Wednesday October 24th-Friday October 26th. There will be 4 categories this year, PreK-1, 2-3, 4-5, and Family. There will be 1 winner from each category. A letter and entry form will be sent home with more details.
Celebrate International Dot Day on Friday September 14th and wear dots!
Preschool/Kindergarten open house for the 2016-2017 will be on Thursday August 4th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Come out and get to know your teacher's for the new year!!
Donuts with Dads will be Friday May 20th from 7:45-8:45 in the morning. Come enjoy some donuts and crafts!
Our first ever Potato Book Character Decorating Contest is coming to Camp Ground. Decorate a potato like a character from a Dr. Seuss book. Potatoes can be brought in beginning on Monday February 29th and the last day to bring them in is Thursday March 3rd. Potatoes will be judged and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will get FREE books at the book fair.
Help decorate your library!! Choose a favorite book or book character and create a Christmas decoration for the library or an ornament for our library tree. All book character ornaments and decorations need to be turned in no later than Friday December 4th.
Camp Ground Elementary 5th grade is proud to present Alice in Christmas Land on Monday December 14th at 6:00 pm in the gym. Performance is open to anyone who would like to attend.

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campain in the country. At school, we like to dress up to celebrate ways to say no to drugs. We encourage all students and staff to join in and participate during this fun week, Monday October 26-Friday October 30.
Monday- Pajama Day- Don't let drugs get in the way of following your dreams. Wear school appropriate pajamas.
Tuesday- Nerd Day- Be too smart to start. Wear your best nerd attire.
Wednesday- Team Day- Be a team player and help stomp out drugs. Wear your favorite sports team shirt/jersey.
Thursday- Red Day- A red ribbon is the national symbol for drug prevention. Wear as much red as possible (shirt, pants, socks, shoes, etc.)
Friday- Costume Day- You can't disguise it, drugs are bad. Dress up in your costume. Reminder: no masks, toy weapons, or face paint to distract from learning.
Saturday October 10th the boys and girls basketball teams and cheerleaders will be participating in the Shooting Stars Showcase. It will be held at North Laurel High School. Girls will play Johnson at 10:00 and the boys will play Johnson at 11:10. Cheerleaders will perform at halftime of both games. All day admission is $5.00.

South Laurel High School will be hosting a Nike Elite Skills basketball camp on September 7 from 9 a.m.-Noon. Doron Lamb and Jeff Sheppard will be at camp. Camp Ground will be having Appalachian Day on Friday October 5th. Students will be participating in lots of fun and interesting activities through out the day. Dress in your favorite Old Fashion or Pioneer clothes.
It is time for Yearbook orders! Order your full color yearbook for the 2017-2018 school year today! We only have a limited amount ordered and they will be sold on a first come first serve basis, so don't miss our on the opportunity. The cost $25.00, please make check payable to Camp Ground PTO.

The Camp Ground PTO is sponsoring a Fall Celebration Dance on Friday, October 25th beginning at 3:30 PM. Students are welcome to dress in costume. Prizes will be awarded for Most Creative Costumes! Admission to the dance will be $2 and concessions will be sold. Be on the lookout for further information!
Everyone is invited to come out and "Meet the 2013 Jackets" Friday night at 6 PM! Come out and support our teams before they start their season this Saturday. There will be games, concessions, and lots of fun! Hope to see you there!

Summer is fast approaching and we want to make sure that you have an opportunity to get some reading in. We will be having a summer reading program for all students who will be attending Camp Ground during the 2017/2018 school year. A packet will be sent home with all the information that you will need to compete the program. The students that complete the program and bring their packets back when school starts will get to attend the Back to School Reading Party in August.
The Camp Ground library will be open the following dates and times during the summer. You will be able to come in and read and take tests and complete your summer reading packet. The AR points you earn this summer will count toward your points for next year.

April Showers Read For Hours! Come join us for our final reading night of the year on Tuesday April 11th from 5:00-7:00 pm. You will be able to read and take AR tests. Camp Ground 2nd graders have been learning about Kindness in their reading class and have decided to partner with Samaritan's Purse and collect items to send to children in need across the world at Christmas. Our school goal as a school is to fill 100 boxes. Below is a list of items that can be brought in to help fill the boxes. Please join us as we work to help make a child's Christmas special. Thank you in advance for your help in making this possible.

Friday October 30th is the Halloween Dance. It will be from 3:30-5:30. Students may wear their costumes. The cost is $3.00 to attend. Flashy Blinky items and concessions will be sold.

Pumpkin book characters can be turned in at the library starting on Monday October 5th, but must be here by Friday October 9th in order to be judged. All pumpkins must be picked up by Wednesday October 14th.

The Camp Ground Libary is a cool place to discover hot books! The Scholastic bookfair will be in the school library beginning Monday, October 7 through Friday, October 11th. Students may bring cash or checks made payable to Camp Ground Elementary School. Students will visit the bookfair during their special class time. Reading is the most important skill a child learns... be sure to take advantage of this oppotunity to purchase affordable books your child can read and keep at home!

We will be participating in a Book Scouts Summer Reading program. This program is for all students that will be attending Camp Ground during the 2016/2017 school year. This program is optional, however, if you complete the program you will be able to attend the Back to School Reading party in August.

It's Box Tops Competition Time!! Turn in your box tops to your teacher from September 1st-October 14th. The class with the most box tops will receive a Fall Celebration Party! All box tops earn money for our school. Happy Clipping!
