To celebrate Read Across America Week and the birthday of Dr. Seuss we will be having dress up days the week of February 26th-March 2nd.  Below are the dress up days.


Monday February 26th- "Cat in the Hat"- Hat Day, wear your favorite hat.

Tuesday February 27th- "Fox in Socks"- Crazy Sock Day, wear your crazy socks.

Wednesday February 28th- "Oh the Places You'll Go"- Career Day, dress up as what you want to be when you grow up.

Thursday March 1st- "Sleep Book"- Pajama Day, wear your pajamas to school.

Friday March 2nd- Favorite Character Day, dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character.

Camp Ground Spelling Bee Winners spelling bee

CONGRATUALTIONS to our Camp Ground Spelling Bee Winners!  Jaren Overbey came in 1st place and Reece Weaver came in 2nd place.  Both will compete in district spelling bee in January.


Christmas Family Reading Night reading night

We will be having a Gingerbread Christmas Family Reading Night on Thursday December 7th from 4:30-6:30 pm.  Our Holiday book fair will be open that night too, so parents and students can shop.  Along with the book fair other activities include:

  • Reading/AR tests
  • Prize Giveaways
  • Crafts
  • Snacks
  • Photo Booth
  • Gingerbread House Contest Voting

Book Fair book fair

Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read!  Come to our Book Fair.  We will be having a 3 day Holiday book fair Wednesday Decmber 6th -Friday December 8th.  Students will be able to visit the book fair during school hours those 3 days.

Gingerbread House Contest gingerbread house

We are seeking out confection creativity for our Gingerbread contest.  We will be having a gingerbread house decorating contest from Friday December 1st-Thursday December 7th.  Below is a list of rules for the contest:


  • Your creation doesn't have to be a house.  It can be a barn, church, castle, some other structure, or even a local church.
  • Creations can be dropped off beginning Friday December 1st-Thursday December 7th.
  • Creations must be picked up by Friday December 8th.
  • Attach a 3x5 index card listing the title of your creation and your name.
  • Creations must be constructed mainly of gingerbread and icing.  Gingerbread kits are fine too.
  • It must be made of edible materials with the exception of the surface it is mounted on.
  • The display must be mounted on a piece of plywood or cardboard no larger than 20x20.
  • Students, teachers, and parents will vote for their favorite during Family Reading Night on Thursday December 7th.  The winners will be announced on Friday December 8th.

A note will be sent home with all the above information on it.

Yankee Candle Fundraiser yankee candle

Our annual Yankee Candle Fundraiser is underway!  Please have all orders and money turned in by Tuesday September 12th.  Remember the more items you sale the more prizes you will receive.  All of the money goes to the Camp Ground PTO, so they can provide things for our students and school.

Derby Day derby day

Derby Day will be Friday May 12th.  Everyone dress in your fancy clothes and hats and we will parade around the school.

Basketball and Cheerleading Tryouts jacket

4th and 5th grade girls and boys basketball and cheerleading tryouts begin on Monday September 11th-Friday September 15th from 3:30-4:45.  If you are interested in trying out you must have your physical turned in by Monday September 11th.  We will not accept any physicals after this date.

Summer Reading Packets book

If you completed the summer reading packet this summer please turn that in to Mrs.Osborne by Monday August 28th.  You will receive a reward for completing the packet.

Red Ribbon Week, October 23-27 Red ribbon week

Red Ribbon Week is October 23-27.  The following activities will take place during this week.


Monday- Wear red


Tuesday- Crazy hair day


Wednesday- Wear your pajamas


Thursday- Wear your favorite team's jersey.


Friday- Dress in your Halloween costume (costumes must be school appropriate, no masks, weapons or anything that would distract from learning.)

A Day Out With DAD dad

Please join us on Friday April 21st from 7:30-8:30 am in the Camp Ground Elementary Gym for A Day Out With Dad.  All dads or male mentors are invited.  There will be free food and a picture.  We hope to see you there!

Family Reading Night kids



Come join us on Thursday September 7th from 4:30-6:30 pm in the Camp Ground library for our first family reading night of the year.  Special guest readers will be reading Laura Numeroff books, including:  If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Dog a Donut, If You Give a Pig a Pancake, and If You Give a Moose a Muffin.  Also we will have the following:

DARE Graduation dare

DARE graduation for 5th grade students will be Wednesday May 17th at 1:00 in the Camp Ground gym.

2017-2018 Open House open house

2017-2018 Open House for Kindergarten will be on Monday August 7th from 4:30-6:00 pm and 1st-5th Grade will also be on Monday August 7th from 6:00-7:30 pm.  Come out and meet your teacher for the new year!

Back To School Dance dancing

Get your dancing shoes on!  Our annual Back to School dance will be on Friday September 8th from 3:30-5:30.  Admission is $3.00 and concessions will be sold.  The money and permission slip must be turned into your teacher by Wednesday September 6th.  Students can be picked up promptly at 5:30. You must have your ID in order to pick up students. 

Veteran's Day Breakfast/Program veterans day

Calling all Veteran's!  If you are a veteran we would like to invite you to come and enjoy breakfast and a program put on by our students to honor you and your sacrifice you made for our country. Breakfast will begin at 8:15 am on Thursday November 9th followed by a program in the gym at 9:00am.  We hope to see you there.


Students need to wear the colored shirt listed below according to their grade.

A Day Out with MOM mom

Please join us on Thursday April 27th  from 7:30-8:30 am in the Camp Ground Elementary Gym for A Day Out With Mom.  All moms and femle mentors are invited.  There will be free food and a picture.  We hope to see you there!

Chicken Invasion chicken

Our school is designing a chicken for the Chicken Festival to be displayed in front of the Laurel County Courhouse.  To help complete our school chicken we need a variety of sizes of bottle caps and lids.  Please send bottle caps with students to help our school create our chicken.

Appalachian Day pioneer

Camp Ground will be having Appalachian Day on Friday September 29th.   Students will be participating in lots of fun and interesting activities through out the day.  Dress in your favorite Old Fashion or Pioneer clothes.

To celebrate Read Across America Week and the birthday of Dr. Seuss, students will have the opportunity to dress up each day, but please no face painting.

Christmas Sing A Long rudolph

Our annual Christmas sing a long will be on Friday December 15th.  Kindergarten-2nd grade will perform at 9:00 am and 3rd-5th grade will perform at 10:00 am.  Come out and enjoy some holiday music.

5th Grade Banquet and Awards 5th grade

The 5th grade banquet will be Wednesday May 17th at 6:30 pm at the London Community Center.

Book Potato Decorating Contest potato

We will be having a Book Character Potato Decorating Contest during Read Across America Week.  Students can decorate a potato like a character from one of their favorite books.  Please be sure to put your name somewhere on your potato.  Potatoes can be brought in beginning on Monday February 26th and the last day to bring them in is Thursday March 1st.  Students will vote on their favorite Book Potato on Friday March 2nd. 

The top 3 potatoes will receive the following award:

1st Place- $15.00 Book Fair Certificate

2nd Place- $10.00 Book Fair Certificate

3rd Place- $5.00 Book Fair Certificate

Haunted Library/PTO Chili Supper haunted house

Camp Ground Library and Camp Ground PTO present the Haunted Library on Friday October 13th from 5:00-7:00 pm.  Come out and join us for a family reading night of spooky storytelling.  It will be a little bit scary and a whole lot of fun!  There will also be games and candy!  You may wear your trick or treat costumes.  PTO will be selling homemade chili with drinks and desert.  It's $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.  CAN'T WAIT TO SCARE... I MEAN... SEE YOU THERE!!!

Awards Day award

K-2 awards will be Friday May 19th at 8:30 am and 3-4 grade awards will be Friday May 19th at 10:00 am.  Invitations will be sent home if your child is receiving an award.

First Day of School back to school

The first day of school for Kindergarten-5th grade will be on Thursday August 10th.  School begins at 8:15 am.  Can't wait to see you there!!

Book Fair book fair

The PAWS for Books bookfair will be at our school Wednesday March 7th-Friday March 9th.  Can't wait to see you there!!

Breakfast with Grandparents breakfast

Attention All Grandparent's!!  Come enjoy breakfast with your grandchild!!  Thursday March 8th and Friday March 9th from 7:30 am- 8:30 am.  Cost is $2.25.  You will also have an opportunity to visit the Bookfair with your grandchild.  The schedule for Breakfast with Grandparent's is below.  Please enter through the cafeteria doors.

Family Reading Night/Unit Club Event

April Showers Read For Hours!  Come join us for our final reading night of the year on Tuesday April 11th from 5:00-7:00 pm.  You will be able to read and take AR tests.  There will be free snacks and drinks.  The UNITE club will be having games and you will get to take home a FREE plant!  Hope to see you there!!

Summer Reading Program summer reading

Summer is fast approaching and we want to make sure that you have an opportunity to get some reading in.  We will be having a summer reading program for all students who will be attending Camp Ground during the 2017/2018 school year.  A packet will be sent home with all the information that you will need to compete the program.  The students that complete the program and bring their packets back when school starts will get to attend the Back to School Reading Party in August.

The Camp Ground library will be open the following dates and times during the summer.  You will be able to come in and read and take tests and complete your summer reading packet.  The AR points you earn this summer will count toward your points for next year.

Egg Drop egg

Our school will be participating in an Egg Drop Thursday September 21st  to help celebrate the World Chicken Festival.  The goal of this project is to design a way to protect a raw egg that will be dropped off the roof of the school to the ground below.  Bring your projects to school WITH A RAW EGG IN IT, on Thursday September 21st.  WE WILL NOT BE PROVIDING AN EGG!

Meet the Jackets jacket

Come out Friday October 6th @ 6:00 to meet the 2017 Boys and Girls Basketball teams and the Cheerleaders.  Come out and support the yellow jackets!

Parent/Teacher Conference school

Parent/Teacher Conference will be on Thursday March 8th from 4:10 pm-6:50 pm.  A note will be sent home to let you know when you can start making appointments with your child's teacher.  You will have until Friday March 2nd to make your appointment.  No appointments will be made after this date.  The book fair will also be open during this time.

The GREAT Pumpkin Show pumpkin

We are planning our annual book character Pumpkin Show.  This family project is always a smashing success and we are ready to see what you can come up with this year.  Students may bring in a pumpkin decorated like their favorite book or book character.  Pumpkins may be dropped off at the library ONLY from October 23-27.  There will be 4 categories this year, PreK-1, 2-3, 4-5, and Family.  There will be 1 winner from each category.  A letter and entry form will be sent home with more details.


2016-2017 Yearbooks yearbook

It is time for Yearbook orders!  Order your full color yearbook for the 2016-2017 school year today!  We only have a limited amount ordered and they will be sold on a first come first serve basis, so don't miss our on the opportunity.  The cost $25.00, please make check payable to Camp Ground PTO.  

We also have 2015-2016 yearbooks on sale for $15.00.
