10th Annual History Fair
Cold Hill Elementary
Cold Hill Elementary will have a History Fair on Friday, April 14th. This is a fun, excellent, and exciting academic competition which improves student learning skills. Students will improve research methods as they explore Kentucky’s or our country’s rich history and share their newly acquired knowledge with classmates. The recognition students receive from their community, school, and family for academic achievement is meaningful and valuable. It is open for all students preschool-5th grade.
Again, the fair will be open for any student that wishes to participate except the 5th grade students which it is a class requirement. Students will make projects that will be displayed in the school’s gymnasium during that day to be judged. Projects can range from a wide variety of topics. The topic for this year’s fair will focus on the last 200 years. Students may choose a topic of their own or from the following examples:
U.S. Presidents Laurel County history inventions
KY Governors Famous Kentuckians civil right movement
Colonial life Native Americans immigrants
Civil War Westward movement Industrial Revolution
Gold Rush Great Depression The Roaring 20’s
The projects can be displayed and can have a written report created by the student but the report is not a requirement. Students can also make items, do research, bring items from a certain period, or give a report on a specific topic. Another way students may wish to participate is to dress as an individual and create a report on their life/accomplishments. Some examples are below.
Also, some more examples are on Mr. Hacker’s classroom webpage.
Awards will be presented to the top 3 students in each grade level. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either Mr. Kilburn or Mr. Hacker. We will be happy to assist in any way.
