Accelerated Reader Guidelines 2017-2018 Library Goal Deadline Extended for AR Point Clubs!! (updated 4/27)

Accelerated Reader Guidelines

for 2017-2018

  1. In order to take an AR test on any book, a student must first read the book.
  2. Students are not allowed to take a test by simply watching a movie that is based on a book.  In order to take the test, they must read the book!
  3. Students should read books that are on or above their reading level. Students cannot read books more than 2 grade levels below.
  4. Students are not allowed to look through the book in order to look for answers while they are taking an AR test.  Once a test has started, do not open the book.  A student is only permitted to have the book while at a computer so that it can help them spell the title.
  5. Only one student is permitted at each computer while taking an AR test unless permitted otherwise by a teacher or adult in charge of the computers.  There are times when a student needs a reader and this is permitted but only with permission.  Remember, students can assist with reading but not the answers.  Don’t give each other answers!
  6. Students should wait patiently while waiting to take an AR test and should wait at a distance from the computer where questions/answers can’t be read.
  7. In order to get an end-of-the-year incentive/reward, students must reach their grade-level goal.  Please note that HALF of the goal should be obtained by Christmas break!

(K-25 points, 1st-35 points, 2nd-45 points, 3rd-55 points, 4th-65 points, and 5th- 75 points) This is NOT a required goal that students have to meet for a grade.

  8. The cutoff date for Accelerated Reader Goal Reward will be Friday, March 30, 2018.  However, students may continue to take AR tests until Friday, April 27, 2018, so that they may obtain more points that will count toward end-of-the-year AR awards. (Top Ten Earners for each grade and Top Primary/Intermediate earners) Dates are subject to change. Any changes will be sent home and posted on the school webpage.
  9. All students who reach an AR Point Club (25, 50, and so on) will have their name included on the library’s AR board and receive certificates at the end of the year.

Testing Times

  • AR tests can only be taken at school. Students may only take AR tests during library checkout time, in their classroom (with their teacher’s permission), or during special events such as Family Reading Night. The library will also be open for student testing in the mornings (7:45-8:15).
  • The library and AR will be closed and locked after 3:00.
  • Scheduled Family Reading Nights will allow time in the afternoons for parents and students to read and take AR tests in the library.
