September 20th High Attendance Day!

Attendance HERO

Thursday, September 20th, has been designated state-wide as “High Attendance Day” for Kentucky schools.  This day highlights the importance of regular school attendance and the correlation between attendance and student performance.  Students who attend class regularly are more likely to keep up with their daily lessons, assignments, and academic achievement.

Awards will be distributed statewide based on each individual school’s attendance percentage.  The school in each category (elementary, middle and high) with highest percentage attendance for that day will be awarded $500!

Let’s strive for 100% attendance on Thursday, September 20th and everyday!

Racing Toward Summer Learning
  • Racing into readingWhen it comes to summer, reading may not be the main thing kids have in mind, but reading can be the ideal summer activity. It is fun, portable, can involve the whole family, and will help your child academically. Research shows that children who don't read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress. Please take some time to make sure your children are reading this summer. The Laurel County Public Library offers some wonderful programs. Our school will be working with the Laurel County Public Library for Summer Reading. If Colony students (Kindergarten-5th grade) participate and complete the program, they will be rewarded with a trip to MALIBU JACKS in Lexington after school starts.  Stop by the school for a packet.

Morning Daycare

DaycareMorning daycare for Colony student will begin on Monday, August 13th at 7:00 AM. All Colony students dropped off between 7:00 and 7:30 will enter through the gym doors in the rear of the building for daycare. The cost is $2 per student per day for this service. Students arriving after 7:30 will enter through the front doors as they have done in the past. You will not be able to park or wait in the parent pickup loop to avoid sending students to Morning Daycare. We hope this will provide a convenient service for parents in the mornings and decrease the congestion and potential safety hazards created when large numbers of students have to wait at the front entrance/lobby area.
