Reading over the summer is incredibly important for students and their academic achievement. Children who do not read over the summer experience summer learning loss. The effect of summer learning loss is cumulative. Kids who lose reading skills over the summer will be two years behind their classmates by the end of 6th grade. Colony Elementary is partnering with the Laurel County Public Library to assist in preventing summer learning loss. The Laurel County Public library will be providing many summer learning opportunities. Click here to see the list of fun learning activities. Colony Elementary will offer a special reward for students who participate in the Laurel County Public Library. Click here for the materials you will need to have signed by the Public Library when you participate in summer learning activities. Have a great summer!
