Thanksgiving Dinner and Auction

Turkey DinnerFriday, November 16th
5:00 – 8:00 PM 

Dinners include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, a roll, dessert, and a drink. The cost will be $8 for each dinner with a special price of $5 for Veterans (with proof of service) and children 12 and under.  Also, this year each grade level will have a themed basket to be auctioned. We are also auctioning a pair of lower arena UK basketball tickets.  The format will be silent/live auction with silent auction from 5 – 7 PM and the live auction beginning at 7 PM.  Each basket will have a list of items included and baskets can be viewed beginning at 5 PM on auction night. Below are the themes for each grade level.  Donations are greatly appreciated and may be sent to your child’s teacher or the front office.  All proceeds will benefit Colony PTO and the students at Colony Elementary.

September 20th High Attendance Day!

Attendance HERO

Thursday, September 20th, has been designated state-wide as “High Attendance Day” for Kentucky schools.  This day highlights the importance of regular school attendance and the correlation between attendance and student performance.  Students who attend class regularly are more likely to keep up with their daily lessons, assignments, and academic achievement. 

Awards will be distributed statewide based on each individual school’s attendance percentage.  The school in each category (elementary, middle and high) with highest percentage attendance for that day will be awarded $500!

Let’s strive for 100% attendance on Thursday, September 20th and everyday!

Racing Toward Summer Learning
  • Racing into readingWhen it comes to summer, reading may not be the main thing kids have in mind, but reading can be the ideal summer activity. It is fun, portable, can involve the whole family, and will help your child academically. Research shows that children who don't read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress. Please take some time to make sure your children are reading this summer. The Laurel County Public Library offers some wonderful programs. Our school will be working with the Laurel County Public Library for Summer Reading. If Colony students (Kindergarten-5th grade) participate and complete the program, they will be rewarded with a trip to MALIBU JACKS in Lexington after school starts.  Stop by the school for a packet.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. Colony will celebrate Red Ribbon Week October 22-26, 2018. 

 

  • Monday- Pajama Day- Don’t let drugs get in the way of following you dreams. Wear school appropriate pajamas, no house shoes.
  • Tuesday- Super Hero Day- Hats off to being drug free. Wear your best super hero hat, shirt or costume.
  • Wednesday- Team Day- Be a team player and help stomp out drugs. Wear your favorite sports team shirt/jersey or hat.
  • Thursday- Red Day- A red ribbon is the national symbol for drug prevention. Wear as much red as possible (shirt, pants, socks, shoes, etc.) Preschool- Wear your Halloween Costumes this day to celebrate Halloween!
  • Friday- Halloween Costume/Camo Day- You can’t disguise it, drugs are bad. Wear your camouflage shirts, pants, or both only if you do not decide you want to wear your Halloween Costume.

There will be games, prizes, food, and a haunted library. Tickets will be sold for all games, pumpkin decorating, cotton candy and popcorn at the front and back door (by the gym) entrances.  Philly Connection food truck will be on site during the festival if you would like to purchase a meal and drinks from them. A percentage of their proceeds will go toward Colony School. This will be a Spook-tacular time!!

Elementary Cheer and Basketball Tryouts

Greyhound basketballGirls/Boys basketball and Cheer tryouts will be the
week of September 10 - 14.  Students must have a
physical in order to try out.  Physical forms have
been sent to students who expressed interest in
trying out for the teams.  The form can also be found
on the district website under the Athletics tab. 
Coach Taylor and Coach Robinson will send home specific information regarding tryout times.

Colony basketball teams and cheerleaders are selling candy bars to raise funds for warm up  suits, shoes, etc.  The candy bars are $1 each and can be purchased at school. If you would like to buy an entire box to sell, boxes are $60 and can be purchased in the office.  Our teams receive 50% profit on sales so please help if you can.  We appreciate your support!

Morning Daycare

DaycareMorning daycare for Colony student will begin on Monday, August 13th at 7:00 AM. All Colony students dropped off between 7:00 and 7:30 will enter through the gym doors in the rear of the building for daycare. The cost is $2 per student per day for this service. Students arriving after 7:30 will enter through the front doors as they have done in the past. You will not be able to park or wait in the parent pickup loop to avoid sending students to Morning Daycare. We hope this will provide a convenient service for parents in the mornings and decrease the congestion and potential safety hazards created when large numbers of students have to wait at the front entrance/lobby area.
