September 20th High Attendance Day!

Attendance HERO

Thursday, September 20th, has been designated state-wide as “High Attendance Day” for Kentucky schools.  This day highlights the importance of regular school attendance and the correlation between attendance and student performance.  Students who attend class regularly are more likely to keep up with their daily lessons, assignments, and academic achievement.

Awards will be distributed statewide based on each individual school’s attendance percentage.  The school in each category (elementary, middle and high) with highest percentage attendance for that day will be awarded $500!

Let’s strive for 100% attendance on Thursday, September 20th and everyday!

Thursday, August 23, 2018 Information Bulletin

The rumor of a threat to cause possible harm to others at Laurel County Schools was reported to school officials.  Superintendent, Dr. Bennett, directed law enforcement to immediately investigate.  The findings from the law enforcement investigation and an administrative investigation show the rumor is not substantiated and there was not a threat of harm to students and students were never at risk. A number of officers and law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation.

Laurel County School District takes all threats seriously and exercises every possible measure to keep our students and staff safe.  We appreciate the efforts of our outstanding School Resource Officers, LEOSA Security Response Team, and local and state law enforcement agencies who work diligently to help keep our students and schools safe.

To Clarify Misinformation Disseminated Throughout the County Regarding the Dissolution of The Backpack Club, Inc.

Our district is aware of and saddened by the ending of the Backpack Club Program.  The Backpack Club Inc, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is an independent Kentucky Corporation and is NOT affiliated with the Laurel County School District.  However, we appreciate the service and love demonstrated by the many volunteers over the last 14 years to our students in distributing backpacks each weekend.

The Laurel County School District does NOT have, nor has ever had any authority or decision-making power over the actions of the Backpack Club, Inc. nor its Board of Directors.

Our district, along with our Family Resource/ Youth Service Centers have already been in contact with other community partners who have expressed interest in filling the void left by the ending of the Backpack Club Program.

Please feel free to contact the Central Office if you have any questions at 606-862-4600.
