Students in the Allied Health Science (AHS) and Biomedical Science (BMS) programs at the Center for Innovation (CFI) were up earlier than usual on Tuesday, November 15 as they participated in a surgical seminar event via distance technology with the University of Kentucky (UK). “Our students observed a pediatric laparoscopic appendectomy through a partnership the CFI has established with the UK Area Health Education Center (AHEC),” said Mr. Ed Bowling, instructor of Health Science. Mrs. Misty Allen, instructor of Biomedical Science, stated that “this was an invaluable learning experience for students to be able to observe and ask questions about the procedure to a practicing surgeon who took both verbal and instant message chat inquiries from students.”
“We are proud of our students who demonstrated such great interest in this special learning opportunity,” said Dr. James M. Davis, CFI Principal. Nearly thirty students arrived at the CFI before 7:00am when many of their peers would still be getting ready for school and these young people took it upon themselves to make an extra effort and come to school to learn remarked Davis.
