On behalf of the Laurel County School District, I would like to take this opportunity to offer some insight into the athletic programs offered by our district. Laurel County has a rich tradition in sports dating back to the days of four high schools – London, Hazel Green, Bush, and Lily.  Many championship teams were produced during this time.  The four high schools were then consolidated into Laurel County High School and the winning tradition continued with multiple state championships in girls’ basketball and a state championship in boys’ basketball.  The new era of athletics began with the construction of North Laurel High School and the rich tradition continued with a state basketball championship at South Laurel High School as well as a State Championship in girls’ fast pitch softball at North Laurel High School.    Laurel County is currently the home of the state’s winningest girls’ fast pitch softball program – the North Laurel Lady Jags.

We feel athletics play an integral part of the total educational experience and we wish to promote good sportsmanship, integrity, character education, and a winning attitude in both team and individual settings.  Participation in sports is an extra-curricular  activity aimed at better developing the minds, bodies, and character of our student athletes, and as both a complement  and supplement to their total educational experience.  We are extremely proud of our programs, facilities, and accomplishments, but most of all, we are proud of our student athletes. We are very fortunate to have talented student athletes participating on 42 high school teams, 20 middle school teams, and 33 elementary teams.  Laurel County is blessed to have excellent sports facilities for our student athletes and will strive to make continued improvements in the future.

We understand that participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege, not a right and we certainly encourage students to enjoy the activities offered by the Laurel County School System.
