The fundamental goal of North Laurel High School Driver Education program is to prepare students to operate motor vehicles safely and responsibly in the complex environment of our streets and highways. Students are expected to learn the physical and mental skills of driving, acquire the knowledge and develop the attitudes and behavior necessary for assuming the social and financial responsibilities associated with operating motor vehicles.
Students who participate in the Driver Education program are expected to learn certain core competencies and skills. Methods of instruction include classroom instruction, assignments requiring decision making, discussion, role playing, traffic situation analysis, use of video materials, resource personnel, and behind the wheel driving. Failure in the classroom portion of the class will result in failure for the course.Students must have the beginner’s permit to begin driving. This will enable them to drive and practice after class hours with a parent or guardian and will allow them to become better drivers.
