Description:

 

Students will be utilizing the following texts:

  • Pearson Common Core Literature and Language – various informational readings, short stories, and poems.
  • To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  • Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet
  • Homer’s The Odyssey
  • Choice novel- Independent Reading Selection, Fahrenheit 451, or other selection at teacher discretion.

Objectives:

  • Students will display growth by reading and comprehending texts of greater complexities.
  • Students will write various types of compositions, will respond to their reading through their writing, and will display proficiency in research.
  • Students will exhibit flexible communication skills and will work collaboratively with others
  • Students will show proficiency of conventions, as well as effective and purposeful use of vocabulary.

 

Materials Needed:

Students need to purchase the following supplies and bring them to class daily.

  • A notebook or binder where English I work can be specifically organized and stored. A separate section or notebook for opening assignments is strongly encouraged.  Opening Assignments will focus on grammar and ACT skills.
  • Pens and pencils
