Civics Today: Citizenship, Economics and You
Pre-A.P. Social Studies I is a two semester class worth one credit and is REQUIRED for all freshmen thinking about taking AP Social Studies courses in the future.  The goal of this class is to provide all students with an understanding of and an appreciation for the advantages of a good government and the law that supports and controls that government.  Covered topics include early American history, the writing of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, duties and responsibilities of American citizens, and economic concepts.  At the end of this course each student should be able to analyze and understand the reasons for laws, freedoms, and civil rights that each citizen in this country enjoys.  Added emphasis will be placed on presidential leadership, elections, political parties, and major Supreme Court decisions throughout U.S. history in this course. Current events and economic issues (fiscal, monetary policies, and financial literacy ) will also be frequently discussed.
