Description:
Civics is the study of rights and duties of citizenship. In other words, it is the study of government with attention to the role of citizens in the operation and oversight of government.  The history of civics dates back to the earliest theories of civics by Confucius in ancient China and Plato in ancient Greece and continue to the everyday interaction between a citizen and the government.
Civics is a subject that touches every person’s life. It teaches the value of being an active citizen in the community.  It teaches the importance of taking part in politics and helping to choose the leaders of local, state and national government. It teaches how laws shape society and how they protect individuals. It teaches how the rights granted by government come with responsibilities and why we should not abuse those rights.
