An Alternate Curriculum Classroom is a tailored program that is designed to meet the needs of students who have significant academic and social/behavioral needs. Our program uses researched based methods to maximize our students potential in a structured learning environment. It is designed to meet the needs of all students. While students may have a variety of disabilities that encompass physical, cognitive, or soical/behavioral.....we do not focus on disability labels. We focus on each child's abilities to build both progress and success in their academic and social deficits. Students continue to learn with non-disabled same age peers while also receiving intense Special Education Services. In addition, those who qualify for this this program receive Community Based Instruction (CBI). CBI allows students the opportunity to generalize information learned in the classroom to real world situations. Our program includes a team of members who strive to build both independence and school success. These members include: Special Education Teachers, Regular Education Teachers, Paraprofessionals/Instructional Assistants, Speech Language Pathologists, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Autism Specialist, Assistive Technology Specialist, Teachers for the Blind/Visually Impaired, Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Nurses, Behavior Specialist and Transportation.
