Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader program  at Hazel Green Elementary school is used to inspire and encourage students to read.  Today's world offers many choices for students these days:  television, internet, hand held games and devices... not to mention extracurricular activities, so it can a challenge for student to find time for reading!  The program is designed to encourage students to take some time to read a book... once they begin, my hope is to hook them with a great book they simply can't put down!
Student Goals are set according to their performance after taking the STAR test.  AR will set an individual goal for each student based on their reading ability and amount of time they are given to read each day.  Suggested student goals for the each marking period are:
Kindergarten- 3pts
First Grade- 5pts
Second Grade- 10pts
Third Grade- 15pts
Fourth Grade- 20pts
Fifth Grade- 25pts
All students are assigned a goal to reach during the marking period and students must maintain an 85% average accuracy in answering questions in order to meet their goal and participate in the AR reward activity.

Want to receive an email each time your child takes an AR test?  Click "Renassiance Place Home Connect" from the Library Media Center Quick Link on the Hazel Green Home Page.  Use your child's user name and password to log on and follow directions to enter email addresses.  The user name is typically the first letter of the child's first name and the first four letters of their last name.  Passwords are their lunch number.  Contact Mrs. Green if you need further help or instructions!  This is a great way to stay connected with your child's reading and you will know whether or not they are on target to reach their goal!
