Reading Homework -   (4 nights at 15min each night)    Research shows that reading practice increases fluency and comprehension which helps in all areas of study. Students are also responsible for various assignments given throughout the week.

Math Homework - Math will be a part of their packet each week. Please refer to the parent reports that indicate your child's progress on each standard.

Science Homework - Students will not be receiving science homework each week.

Language - Students will be learning grammar as well as writing.  When scoring writing, it will be broken down into categories.  For example, one selection of writing may be scored on organization only, another on idea development or mechanics.  So if you see a a selection with mispellings or errors just be aware of what is being looked at on that selection.

Spelling - Spelling is now a part of our new Language Program, so study lists will no longer be sent home.  Much of our Language is now oral and the spelling is practiced as letter sounds we write to create words.

Assessments-  I will use Flashbacks/Exits to encourage retention of learned skills. Flashbacks and Exits do count as a grade. Please look through your child's weekly folder, and feel free to email me any time by selecting the 'contact Diane Bailey' link on this page. I check my emails at school, at home and even on weekendsLaughing

Please help your child become stronger readers by reading with them and asking questions. Or just having them tell you about what they've read. Don't accept shortcuts:) Make them tell you details. (Who, When, Where, What, Why and How) You can also have them explain the skills they're working on.
