6th Grade Social Studies Syllabus

Course Description

Sixth Grade social studies begins with the study of government, then we move on into culture and society, then we finish the year with economics and geography.

Course Objectives

  • Explain what types of governments are found in the world
  • Compare economic systems and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each type
  • Compare economic systems and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each type
  •  Explain how human and physical characteristics create advantages and disadvantages for human activities
  • Compare and contrast forms of government

 

Makeup Work: Makeup work is the responsibility of the student who is absent. Students will have one day to complete makeup work for each day absent per district policy.

Extra Help:

Tutoring is available during the year after school. Generally this starts in October, and parents will be notified when tutoring begins. Students may request teacher help whenever necessary.

Grade Scale

A 90 – 100 %

B 80 – 89 %

C 70 – 79%

D 60 – 69 %

F 59 % or below

 

Grading Policy:

Each nine weeks the average will be based on tests, quizzes, homework, and standards mastery assessments.

Standards Mastery Assessments: 20%

Tests: 30%

Quizzes: 25%

Classwork: 25%

 

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

All students are expected to have these materials with them in class, daily.

    1 inch 3-ring binder

Pencils (These will need to be regularly bought throughout the year.)

***Donations of: Kleenex, Lysol Wipes, Wrapped Candy (NO NUTS), Pencils, and Dry Erase Markers.
