About the Teacher

My name is Mrs. Amber Murray.  I am a 3rd grade teacher at London Elementary School in London, KY.  This year is my 13th year teaching.  I taught 2nd grade for 11 years and have been teaching 3rd grade for 2 years.  I love teaching and I look forward to a very successful year.  Teaching is a very rewarding experience!
First of all, I live in London, KY and have been married for 17 years to Scott Murray. We have two beautiful daughters named Addison Paislee and Avery Harper. Scott is a heavy equipment salesman for Caterpillar Equipment and a pilot.  Addison is ten and is in fifth grade this year.  She is a swimmer and also likes soccer and basketball.  Avery is seven years old and is in second grade. She likes softball, swimming, and gymnastics. We also have a dog named Sophie and 6 cats.
When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with my family and friends.  I love to go camping and spend time in Tennessee at what I like to think of as my second home. I love Dollywood and I also love the outdoors: swimming, wakeboarding, skiing, and playing golf.  I guess I could have always been known as a “tom-boy” because I grew up riding dirt bikes and four-wheeling. I haven’t outgrown it because I still love hittin' the mud holes on the RZR.  However, aside from being a “tom boy” I guess I am a little “girly” too. I grew up as a cheerleader in middle school and high school.  I coached gymnastics for several years before entering the teaching profession.  I love to watch, participate, and coach cheerleaders and tumbling.  I am a huge UK Basketball and Football fan.  (I am completely an Anti-Tennessee Volunteer or Florida Gators fan!) Go CATS!  Like almost any girl, I love to shop! But, most of all I LOVE God! I currently attend Hawk Creek Baptist Church.
I am a 2003 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.  I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English/Communications and a master’s degree in instructional leadership (principalship).
Some things you might need to know about me as a teacher are:
  1. I will treat you with respect as long as you treat me with respect. In my classroom RESPECT is a powerful word.  As you have probably heard, "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you."
  2. I expect you to follow the school and classroom rules at ALL times, even when my head is turned.  In fact, you know that teachers have eyes in the back of their heads.
  3. I have been known as the "crazy teacher"! You never know when I am going to breakdown into the chicken dance, hop into a handstand, throw a water balloon at you, or show up at school in my pajamas. School has to be fun, right!?!?
I encourage parent/teacher communication and feel that it directly influences student success.  If you ever have questions or concerns please feel free to call me during my planning time, send me a note, or e-mail me.  I look forward to working with you throughout the year.  I hope we all have a great year!
