Hello and welcome to Eighth Grade Social Studies!  I am looking forward to sharing a year of American History with all of my students.  A little about myself:  My name is Carrie Thompson and this is my eighth year of teaching.  I have always taught eighth grade and love this age group.  I have two children, Madison (10) and Carter (2).  My husband is a member of Bush Volunteer Fire Department and we enjoy activities within our community.
About my education:  I earned my bachelor's in teaching from Eastern Kentucky University.  About a year ago I earned my first master's degree in Special Education from the University of the Cumberlands.  I am currently working on a second master's degree again, at the University of the Cumberlands.

My philosophy in education is that my students are my family.  Teachers spend more time with their students during the school year than their own children and I really do consider my students my children.  My goals for my students are that they learn and understand American History and that they learn to love history.  Without the knowledge of our past, how do we know where to go in the future?  My approach to teaching is an interactive one.  Within my Social Studies classes we explore, hold a constitutional convention, create character sketches, analyze paintings and pictures, create vocabulary posters, take guided reading notes, write journals, and above all have fun while learning Social Studies.

I cannot wait to get the year going and learn about all these pivotal moments in our American History!
