Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to North Laurel Middle School! I am your child’s 6th grade math teacher, and I am thrilled to welcome your child to my class this year. 6th grade is such a fun year with so many wonderful activities to celebrate! In order to have a fun year, my most important goal is to create a family of learners in my classroom. I am committed to crafting a classroom environment where your child is a valued, trusted, and an integral part of our family of learners. In order to accomplish this, I have planned a variety of activities to emphasize and reinforce this goal. It is my hope that you will support and encourage this vision at home. Our Units of Study this year will be:

  • Factors & Multiples
  • Ratio & Proportion
  • Fractions, Decimals, & Percents
  • Data & Statistics
  • Integers
  • Expressions & Equations
  • Geometry

I will be asking each student to keep a composition notebook and a folder for math only. The Interactive Notebook is a notebook in which we will record notes from time to time. These notebooks should come to the class with students every day. When struggling with homework assignments, the students can use these notes in their notebook to assist them.

Parents, family members, and guardians are the driving force in their student’s life. I encourage you to show your concern by asking your 6th grader about the school day and making sure assigned homework is completed and returned to school. It is important that you check their daily planner and sign it after going over their assignments with them each evening. Also, watch for school-wide communications in your child’s folder each day. In order to communicate more effectively, I am asking students and parents to sign up for my text/email alerts with Remind 101. The codes are as follows:

  • 1st period: Text @rotondi1 to 81010
  • 2nd period: Text @rotondi2 to 81010
  • 3rd period: Text @rotondi3 to 81010
  • 5th period: Text @rotondi5 to 81010
  • 6th period: Text @rotondi6 to 81010
