Your Input is Requested!
In the next few weeks, the School-Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) of Bush Elementary will select the new vice-principal.  This is a critical decision for the school and the community, and your input will help in the decision to hire a new vice-principal.  This survey was designed and approved by the SBDM Council on June 11, 2014. 


Bush Presents The Lion King Musical

We would like to say thank you to ALL that made the Bush Lion King Musical possible.  We are so very proud of our students and our team that worked to make this possible.  We would especially like to thank Mrs. Kelly Harris, Johnna Phelps Cessna, and the Rythm and Dance Studio for making this production possible.  Once again, thank you.  The shows were awesome!

Career Day

Thursday, April 17th is going to be a special day at Bush---Career Day!There will be a career fair in the gym that will showcase many different career/job opportunities for our students to consider in the future.  We are asking our students who are interested to come to school dressed as the person they would like to be when they grow up.

Spring Break Week

There will be no school on March 31st-April 4th due to Spring Break.  However, there will be school on March 28th.  It is now now a regular school day!

Bush Basketball & Cheer Tryouts

Tryouts for the girls/boys basketball and cheerleading teams will be September 15th-19th from 3:30-4:30.  Please note that any student interested in trying out for basketball is required to have a current sports physical.

Bush Yearbook Now Available for Ordering

The Bush Elementary Yearbook will be available for ordering from Wednesday, March 26-Thurdsay, April 10th.  The cost is $25.00 and will include personalization.  Please make checks available to Bush Elementary PTO.  This will be the only opportunity to order and there will be NO extras avaliable.  You may contact kim.jones@laurel.kyschools.us for questions concerning the yearbook.

Bush Students Sing the WAC Song
Watch and listen as Mrs. Allen's 2nd grade students sing the WAC song, a song composed by Mrs. Allen that teaches students to remember numerous reading terms.  Mrs. Allen's class is modeling a vocabulary strategy that is used in the SRA Reading Program.

Aloha!!!! You are invited to Bush's Luau party/sock hop on Friday, September 12th from 6:00-8:00.  Come and join the fun!

Bush Archery Team Tryouts

Tryouts for the 2014-2015 Bush Archery Team will take place during the month of October.  These tryouts are open to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.  Please check back. Dates and times will be announced soon!!!

Summer Reading in the Library
We are pleased to announce that once again Bush will offer summer reading in the library.  Students may read, check out books, and take Accelerated Reader tests.  Points earned will count toward next year's grade-level reading goals!  Please note that a child must be chaperoned by a parent/guardian in order to use the library.  Click HERE to access the summer reading parent informational letter.  Click HERE to access the parent permission/guidleines form.

Kentucky Author Returns to Bush

Angela Spady, the educator and author of the popular Channing O'Banning series is coming back to Bush on Tuesday, September 16th.  Mrs. Spady will be bringing her 3rd book in the Channing O'Banning book series as well as a book from her new series, "Desperate Diva Diaries."  Pre-orders are available.  Students that purchase a book will get their book signed and meet the author.  Click HERE to access the re-order form.

Lexington Children's Theatre Coming to Bush

The Lexington Children's Theatre will perform "Long Road to Freedom" and "Rapunzel" on Wednesday, September 17th.

Bush to Celebrate Naional Milk Day

Bush will celebrate National Milk Day on Wednesday, September 24th.  The cafeteria staff have planned several milk-related activities for students to enjoy.

High Attendance Day...BE THERE!

The KY Directors of Pupil Personnel has designated September 18th, 2014 as "High Attendance Day" for all public schools in KY.  The Laurel County school system is encouraging every student to be a participant in education and demonstrate that you believe education is important!


Congratulations to the Bush Archery Team for their TOP TEN finish at the 2013-2014 KY NASP State Tournament.  Our team finished in 9th place with a total team score of 3045 points.   Our team has now qualified for nationals.  The 2013-2014 NASP Nationals Tournament will be held in Louisville, KY on May 8-10th.  We are so very proud of our archers...GO BUSH!!!

Camp Out With a Good Book Returns to Bush

We would like to invite all students and parents to come out to Bush for a fun night of family fun and reading time.  "Camp Out With A Good Book" family reading night will take place on Thursday, September 18th from 5:30-7:00 PM.  Students will be able to read books and take Accelerated Reader tests in the library.  Don't forget to bring your sleeping bag or favorite camping blanket!


Hat Day

September Behavior Reward will be HAT DAY on Thursday, September  25th.

Chicken Festival

There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, September 26th due to the World Famous Chicken Festival.

Pioneer Day Returns to Bush
Pioneer Day will take place on Thursday, November 7th.  Make plans to have a good time and dress for the occasion. 
Native American Week

Bush will host Native American Week from October 13-15th.  We are currently in the process of scheduling several events that will allow our students to enjoy several days of Native American history and culture.

Native American Day: Monday, October 13th (Please note that students and staff are encouraged to wear Native American dress attire and will spend a day enjoying and experiencing Native American themed lessons/activities.

Character Pumpkins Are Headed Our Way

Plan ahead...what character pumpkin will you bring to life?  Character Pumpkins are due on Monday, October 20th. Tables will be ready for drop off and display of pumpkins first thing Monday morning during our "Moms and Muffins" event.  Please bring pumpkins to the foyer and place them on your child's grade level table.  Staff will be available to help if needed.

Fall Break/No School

There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, October 16th and Friday, October 17th due to FALL BREAK!!!

Scholastic Bookfair Returns to Bush

The  2014 Fall Scholastic Bookfair will be held at Bush from Monday, October 20th-Friday, October 24th.

Moms & Muffins

Our annual Moms and Muffins event will take place on Monday, October 20th from 7:45-8:15AM.  Come out and enjoy a morning of muffins and reading with your child in the Bush Library Media Center.

Parent-Teacher Conference
We will host our fall Parent-Teacher Conference for the 2013-2014 school year on Monday, October 20th from 4:00-7:00 PM.  In order to accomodate all of our parents, parents will be given a specific time to meet with their child's teachers.  See your child's teacher in order to dicuss these matters.
Breakfast With Grandparents

We would like to invite all of our grandparents to come out to our annual Breakfast With Grandparents event.  This event will be held on October 21st-22nd from 7:45-8:15AM.  Please check below for your child's assigned date.

Author Michael Finklea to Visit Bush
