There will be NO school on Monday, September 7th due to the Labor Day Holiday!

Bush Sock Hop

Bush PTO will sponsor  the first Sock Hop of the year on Thursday, September 10th from 3:30-5:30 PM. Students that attend the Sock Hop will stay after school and will be dismissed to the dance as soon as bus and parent pick-ups are complete.  We will have more information coming soon!

Read the Most Coast to Coast

Bush is pleased to announce that we will participate in the 4th Annual Read the Most Coast to Coast 2015 event that will take place on Friday, February 27th.  During Read the Most Coast to Coast, our students can join their peers across the nation to celebrate their love of reading and immerse themselves in books. Students will be able to read books, take AR tests, and track their successes via a live ticker.

Bush Presents Big Blue Madness

Thanks to all that came out to our Big Blue Madness Family Reading Event.  A big thanks to all that helped make this event possible.  Pictures are now available for viewing under the Photo Gallery link.  Our shout out video is also now available.  GO BIG BLUE!!!  Aslo, watch and listen as our kids enjoy Happy Chandler's rendition of "My Old Kentucky Home."

 

 

Bush Elementary Named a 2015 Blue Ribbon School

We are honored to report that Bush Elementary has been named a 2015 Blue Ribbon School.  Representatives for Bush will travel to Washington, DC in order to receive this prestigious award.  We are so very proud of our school!

Family Reading Night

We would like to invite all students and parents to come out to Bush for a fun night of family fun and reading time.  Family reading night will take place on Thursday, September 17th from 6:00-7:30 PM.  Students will be able to read books and take Accelerated Reader tests in the library and computer lab.  There will also be FREE hotdogs, ice cream, and drinks.

 

Bush T-Shirts

2016 Arbor Day Poster Contest

The Arbor Day Poster Contest is open to all 4th and 5th grade students.  Please note the the deadline for all projects is March 15th!  Although Mrs. Curry will be giving information during art class, you may contact her @ melody.curry@laurel.kyschools.us if you have any questions or need assistance.  Click HERE for contest rules and information.

Little Lambs Gourmet Cookie Dough Fundraiser

The Bush PTO is now participating in our first fundraising event of the year, Little Lambs Gourmet Cookie Dough.  All orders must be turned in to their homeroom teacher on or before Friday, September 4th.

* Students who sell 3 items will receive a glow ring and lanyard.

* For every addidional 2 items sold, students will receive another ring.

* Students who sell 6 items will receive admission to the GLOW PARTY!!!

* Students who sell 9 items will receive 1 pair of glow glasses and 1 glow necklace which will be given at the GLOW PARTY!

* During our fundraiser, the office will randomly choose a glow ring color.  Those students who are wearing the announced color will receive a prize from the MYSTERY BOX!

Bush Student Wins Arbor Day Poster Contest

The London Tree Board recently sponsored a poster contest for all Laurel County school students in grades four and five.  Students were encouraged to learn the contribution trees make to our environment and quality of life.  they were to draw a poster to represent what they had learned and how illustrate the contest theme, "Trees Are Terrific in Cities and Towns."  A committe of Tree board members judged the contest and on April 24th the winner was announced.

Jakeb Hurley, a Bush fourth grade student in Mr. Carson's room, won first place.  His class was treated to a pizza party and a tree will be planted in his honor when the weather is best for planting--this fall.

Tree Board Representative Karen Wyan and Mayor Troy Rudder visited Bush to make the announcement and congratulate Jakeb and provide the pizza party.

Summer Reading in the Library
The summer reading session for this Thursday, July 23 rd has been cancelled! We may try to have one more session next week. Please check back. Thank you!

 

Bush Artists Finish Derby Blanket

Bush students, Lauren Sotingeanu, Jacob Bowman, and Nina Pauig worked with their art teacher, Mrs. Curry, and Mia Hinkle, a local community artist, in order to complete a blanket for the 2015 Governor's Derby Celebration.  Derby blankets will be chosen by a committee and, if chosen, will be used a tablecloth for the picnic tables at this year's celebration.

2015 World Chicken Festival

There will be no school on Friday, September 25th due to the World Chicken Festival.

2015 Public Service Poster Contest

All Kentucky students are invited to participate! 

In honor of Kentucky's public servants, students are invited to participate in the 2015 Public Service Recognition Poster Contest. This year's theme, "Great people doing great jobs," should be expressed through the artwork.
Entries will be judged in three categories; Ages 6-9,10-13, and 14-18 
Winners receive a $100 award and an invitation to a special ceremony at the Capitol in October. They will also have the opportunity to tour the Capitol and visit the Salato Wildlife Education Center while in Frankfort. 
Entries must be postmarked by Sept. 11, 2015Visit the Personnel Cabinet website for a complete list of contest guidelines. Winners will be posted on the website on Sept. 21.

Bush Presents The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Bush Elementary will present The Best Christmas Pageant Ever on Tuesday, December 15th @ 1:00 PM for students only and 6:30 PM for parents and the community.

Bush Archer Is One of the Best in the Bluegrass

Congratulations to Savannah Philpot for being Top 10 in the Best of the Bluegrass Archery Tournament that was held on Saturday, April 18th in Midway, KY.  Savannah shot a score of 278 and she competed against the top 100 elementary female archers in the state.  Way to go Savannah!

Read Across America Day

As part of our Read Across America Celebration, Bush will provide several opportunities for our students to join in the fun!  Friday, March 6th will be Crazy Hat and/or Crazy Socks Day!  More information coming soon!

 

 

Bush Food Service Staff Commended

The Kentucky Department of Education recently conducted an Administrative Review of the food service at Bush Elementary School from March 3 thru March 6, 2015. According to Food Service Director Tammy Hammock, Bush was randomly selected by the state to receive the review which rountinely occurs every three years. Members of the Bush Food Service Staff were recognized at the March 23, 2015 Board of Education Meeting for their outstanding evaluation received during this review. Mrs. Hammock quoted the comments of the reviewers, in reference to the performance of the staff, as, "Phenomenal." "On Point." "You Rock!" Superintendent Dr. Doug Bennett expressed the appreciation and congratulations of the district and the Board of Education and presented each staff with a certificatie of recognition.

Little Lamb Cookie Dough GLOW PARTY

The Glow party for the cookie dough fundraiser will take place on Tuesday, November 24th.  Please wear white or neon bright colors!

Bush Kindergarten Kids Take Action!

The kindergarten students at Bush Elementary School started their school year off by conducting a school wide "Back To School" supply drive for the students of Johnson County whose homes were destroyed by recent floods.  Over 30 backpacks filled with school supplies were donated as well as many other school related items.  We would like to thank everyone that donated items and helped in this drive.  Thank you for your support!

"Change fore Change" Week at Bush

We would like to thank everyone that helped make this week a success.  With the help of our students, parents, and local community, we were able to exceed our goal for our world outreach project.  Bush raised approximately $4500 that will be given to the orphanage in Uganda.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Malloree McMullin Wins Princess Title

Congratulations to Malloree McMullin for being crowned Princess of the 2015 World Chicken Festival Pagenat.  She also won the most photogenic category.  Malloree is a 4th grade student in Mrs. Philpot's class.  Way to go Malloree...we are so very proud of the beautiful young "princess" that you are (both inside and out)!

Student Art Showcase

The 2nd Annual Bush Student Art Showcase will take place on Thursday, March 19th from 4:00-7:00 PM.  Artwork completed throughout the year during art class will be on display for all to view during parent-teacher conference.  Come and view our Bush artists' masterpieces. More information coming soon!

Donuts with Dad

We would like to invite all our dads to our Annual Donuts with Dad Event.  Dads and Donuts will take place on Tuesday, March 17th from 7:40-8:30.  Come and enjoy a donut as you read a book to your child.
