Bush Basketball & Cheer Tryouts

Tryouts for the girls/boys basketball and cheerleading teams will be September 15th-19th from 3:30-4:30.  Please note that any student interested in trying out for basketball is required to have a current sports physical.

Fall Break/No School

There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, October 16th and Friday, October 17th due to FALL BREAK!!!

Kentucky Author Returns to Bush

Angela Spady, the educator and author of the popular Channing O'Banning series is coming back to Bush on Tuesday, September 16th.  Mrs. Spady will be bringing her 3rd book in the Channing O'Banning book series as well as a book from her new series, "Desperate Diva Diaries."  Pre-orders are available.  Students that purchase a book will get their book signed and meet the author.  Click HERE to access the re-order form.

Read the Most Coast to Coast

Bush is pleased to announce that we will participate in the 4th Annual Read the Most Coast to Coast 2015 event that will take place on Friday, February 27th.  During Read the Most Coast to Coast, our students can join their peers across the nation to celebrate their love of reading and immerse themselves in books. Students will be able to read books, take AR tests, and track their successes via a live ticker.

Girl Scout Sign-Ups

Interested in becoming a Girl Scout?  Girl Scout signups will be held at Bush on Friday, November 11th @ 3:30 PM.  The cost is $15.00 per girl.

Bush Presents Big Blue Madness

Thanks to all that came out to our Big Blue Madness Family Reading Event.  A big thanks to all that helped make this event possible.  Pictures are now available for viewing under the Photo Gallery link.  Our shout out video is also now available.  GO BIG BLUE!!!  Aslo, watch and listen as our kids enjoy Happy Chandler's rendition of "My Old Kentucky Home."

 

 

Bush Student Wins Arbor Day Poster Contest

The London Tree Board recently sponsored a poster contest for all Laurel County school students in grades four and five.  Students were encouraged to learn the contribution trees make to our environment and quality of life.  they were to draw a poster to represent what they had learned and how illustrate the contest theme, "Trees Are Terrific in Cities and Towns."  A committe of Tree board members judged the contest and on April 24th the winner was announced.

Jakeb Hurley, a Bush fourth grade student in Mr. Carson's room, won first place.  His class was treated to a pizza party and a tree will be planted in his honor when the weather is best for planting--this fall.

Tree Board Representative Karen Wyan and Mayor Troy Rudder visited Bush to make the announcement and congratulate Jakeb and provide the pizza party.

December Behavior Reward Incentive

Polar Express/Pajama Party Day will take place on Friday, December 19th.  This event is a good behavior and positive work habits reward incentive for those who have earned it.  Get those pajamas ready!

Bush Presents A Winter Wonderland

We would like to thank ALL of those that made Bush Elementary's "Winter Wonderland Musical" a hugh success.  THANK YOU!

Thanksgiving Break

There will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, November 26th, Thursday, November 27th, or Friday, November 28th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Lexington Children's Theatre Coming to Bush

The Lexington Children's Theatre will perform "Long Road to Freedom" and "Rapunzel" on Wednesday, September 17th.

Bush to Celebrate Naional Milk Day

Bush will celebrate National Milk Day on Wednesday, September 24th.  The cafeteria staff have planned several milk-related activities for students to enjoy.

High Attendance Day...BE THERE!

The KY Directors of Pupil Personnel has designated September 18th, 2014 as "High Attendance Day" for all public schools in KY.  The Laurel County school system is encouraging every student to be a participant in education and demonstrate that you believe education is important!

Bush Artists Finish Derby Blanket

Bush students, Lauren Sotingeanu, Jacob Bowman, and Nina Pauig worked with their art teacher, Mrs. Curry, and Mia Hinkle, a local community artist, in order to complete a blanket for the 2015 Governor's Derby Celebration.  Derby blankets will be chosen by a committee and, if chosen, will be used a tablecloth for the picnic tables at this year's celebration.

Bush Archer Is One of the Best in the Bluegrass

Congratulations to Savannah Philpot for being Top 10 in the Best of the Bluegrass Archery Tournament that was held on Saturday, April 18th in Midway, KY.  Savannah shot a score of 278 and she competed against the top 100 elementary female archers in the state.  Way to go Savannah!

Camp Out With a Good Book Returns to Bush

We would like to invite all students and parents to come out to Bush for a fun night of family fun and reading time.  "Camp Out With A Good Book" family reading night will take place on Thursday, September 18th from 5:30-7:00 PM.  Students will be able to read books and take Accelerated Reader tests in the library.  Don't forget to bring your sleeping bag or favorite camping blanket!

September Behavior Reward will be HAT DAY on Thursday, September  25th.

Read Across America Day

As part of our Read Across America Celebration, Bush will provide several opportunities for our students to join in the fun!  Friday, March 6th will be Crazy Hat and/or Crazy Socks Day!  More information coming soon!

Bush Wins Region 28 Governor's Cup Competition

Congratulations to the Bush Academic Team on their 1st place win in the Region 28 Governor's Cup Competition held at London Elementary on 3/21/15.  Bush was awarded 1st place Overall Team and 1st place in Quick Recall.  In addition to the team awards, Bush had several individual awards in written assessments that are listed below:

Matthew Sanders--1st place Language Arts  and 1st place Arts & Humanities

Ghazzal Hammad--1st place Mathematics and 3rd place Language Arts

Haani Khan--1st place Science

Aaron Jones--3rd place Arts and Humanities

Maddi Mastin--4th place Language Arts

Charlie Broughton--5th place Arts & Humanities

 

 

 

Bush Food Service Staff Commended

The Kentucky Department of Education recently conducted an Administrative Review of the food service at Bush Elementary School from March 3 thru March 6, 2015. According to Food Service Director Tammy Hammock, Bush was randomly selected by the state to receive the review which rountinely occurs every three years. Members of the Bush Food Service Staff were recognized at the March 23, 2015 Board of Education Meeting for their outstanding evaluation received during this review. Mrs. Hammock quoted the comments of the reviewers, in reference to the performance of the staff, as, "Phenomenal." "On Point." "You Rock!" Superintendent Dr. Doug Bennett expressed the appreciation and congratulations of the district and the Board of Education and presented each staff with a certificatie of recognition.

Joaquin Pauig Wins the Laurel Co. District Spelling Bee

We would like to congratulate Joaquin Pauig for winning the Laurel County District Spelling Bee.  Joaquin is a fourth grade student here at Bush.  Amazingly, the bee consisted of students ranging from 4th-8th grade across the district.  Way to go Joaquin!!! 

Bush Thanksgiving Dinner & Fall Auction

Author Michael Finklea to Visit Bush

Moms & Muffins

Our annual Moms and Muffins event will take place on Monday, October 20th from 7:45-8:15AM.  Come out and enjoy a morning of muffins and reading with your child in the Bush Library Media Center.

Kids on the Block Puppet Show Returns to Bush

"Kids on the Block" is a puppet program that promotes Child Abuse Provention.  This assembly will take place at Bush on Tuesday, November 25th.  There will be two assembly programs: Preschool-2nd @ 1:00 PM and 3rd-5th @ 1:45 PM.

Bush Archery Wins Back-to-Back Region Titles

We would like to congratulate the Bush archery team for winning the 2015 KY NASP Region 11 Archery Tournament.  Bush ranked 1st out of 12 elementary teams that participated in this year's region tournament and brought home the title with a team score of 3,033 points.   Several Bush archers also received individual honors during the tournament.  Savannah Philpot ranked #1 among all elementary female archers with a score of 285.  Savannah actually tied for the overall female score for the entire event which included all high, middle, and elementary school archers; Nina Pauig ranked #2 in the elementary female division with a score of 261; Jayce Hacker ranked #2 among all elementary male archers with a score of 261; and Matthew Hinkle ranked #3 with a score of 260.  Bush will now advance to the state tournament that will be held in March.  Congratulations and GO BUSH!!!

Box Tops for Education Are Back

Please help our school earn money by saving and turning in Box Top Labels!  You may turn in box tops to your teacher from now until the end of February.  Top 10 students and top 3 classrooms will receive a prize.  Please place box tops in envelope or ziplock bag with your child's name.  Bush earned $2,929.00 last fall!

Bush Student's Artwork Chosen for Kentucky Traveling Art Exhibit

We would like to congratulate Emily Bolton whose artwork was selected for the 2015 VSA Kentucky Traveling Art Exhibit.  Emily is a fourth grade student in Mrs. Jones' class.  CONGRATULATIONS!!! 

Bush Student Wins Essay Contest

We would like to congratulate Ghazzal Hammad for winning the Woodmen of the World Essay Contest.  Students had to write an essay about their grandparents.  Ghazzal was recently presented a new bicycle, the grand prize for this year's writing contest.  Congratulations Ghazzal!!!

Storybook Character Dress-Up Day

Character Dress Up Day will take place on Friday, October 31st.  This event is a schoolwide reward incentive for both GOOD behavior and work ethics.  Students that have demonstrated these attributes will be invited to participate in this event.  Invitations will be sent home on Monday, October 27th.  Please note that students must have a book that corresponds with their costume.     

Scholastic Bookfair Returns to Bush

The  2015 spring bookfair will be held at Bush on Monday, March 16th-Friday, March 20th.
 

Parent-Teacher Conference
We will host our spring Parent-Teacher Conference for the 2014-2015 school year on Thursday, March 19th from 4:00-7:00 PM.  More information coming soon!

The 2nd Annual Bush Student Art Showcase will take place on Thursday, March 19th from 4:00-7:00 PM.  Artwork completed throughout the year during art class will be on display for all to view during parent-teacher conference.  Come and view our Bush artists' masterpieces. More information coming soon!

Arbor Day Poster Contest 2015

“Trees are Terrific…….In Cities and Towns” is the theme for this year’s Arbor Day poster contest.  Posters should reflect the students understanding of the important role trees play in our environment.  Students MUST carefully follow the contest rules, and have the posters completed and returned to Mrs. Curry by March 23, 2015.  Click HERE to see contest rules.

Bush Cheerleaders Win Cheer Competition

CHAMPIONS!!! We would like to congratulate our Bush Cheerleaders for winning the 2014 Give Back Cheer Off sponsored by the NLMS Cheerleaders.  We would also like to thank all of those who helped Bush win the Spirit Award.  We are...Blue Devils...We are...Blue Devils...GO BUSH!!!
