4th Grade Language Arts Teacher
Hunter Hills Elementary School

8325 South U.S. 25

I am so pleased to be the new fifth grade language arts teacher at Hunter Hills Elementary School! I am very excited to be working with your child for the 2012-2013 school year. I currently live in the Corbin area and graduated from South Laurel High School in 2007. I received my bachelor's degree in elementary education from Eastern Kentucky University in May of 2011. Before becoming a fifth grade language arts teacher, I tutored all grades in math and reading at Hunter Hills and taught fourth grade language arts. I look forward to working with you and your child during this school year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me (stephanie.murphy@laurel.kyschools.us) or call me at school. (862-4655 ext. 3227)

Fifth grade language arts includes not only language mechanics but also writing skills. Your child will be learning the basic language mechanics as well as writing many different pieces throughout the school year. The majority of the school year will involve preparing your child for on-demand writing that they will be tested on at the end of the year in the KPREP test.

As often as possible, our language arts classes will have "Wacky Wednesday." I understand that language arts can get repetitive for a lot of students. Therefore, to keep language interesting and fun to all students we participate in core content games every Wednesday. The students will work individually, in groups, or with partners to complete different activities each Wednesday within the classroom that relate to the topic that we are currently studying. This way the students are learning, but they are also having fun while doing so!
