Laurel Co Youth Leadership Council

Welcome to my page for the Laurel County Youth Leadership Council! This outstanding group of young men and women are tomorrow's leaders, and it is our privilege to help them develop their leadership skills.

The students wishing to be members of the LCYLC can pick up applications near the end of each school year from their school sponsor(s). The school sponsor for SLHS is Mrs. Caprecia Sizemore (Gear Up at SLMS), and co-sponsors are Mrs. Ratliff (Exceptional Ed. Teacher) and Mrs. Samantha Kirby (Social Studies Teacher). Once applications are complete, students will participate in an interview process. If selected, they will be a member of the LCYLC.

Members are expected to uphold certain standards, and these are explained in detail at the first event of the school year, which is an all-day meeting and service project at the G.C. Garland Building. As leaders, students are also allowed the opportunity to serve the community in a variety of ways. Past volunteer opportunities include walking in parades, doing fall and Christmas visits at the local nursing home, making blankets for hospice patients, working school carnivals, etc. Depending on the year and budget, an educational trip may be taken during the spring semester. Notable trip locations include Washington, D.C., and Charleston, SC.

If you are interested in becoming a member or running for office for the LCYLC, please contact one of the sponsors listed above. You can keep up with the LCYLC on Instagram by following @lcyouthleadershipcouncil. Thank you!
