How do I register my child for In-Person Classes?

  • If your child will be attending In-Person Classes, your child will be provided Registration Packets on the first day of school – this is the same process as in previous school years.  Parents may then complete and return the Registration Packet the next day.  Parents will select the In-Person Attendance Option on the School Attendance Option Intent Form included in the Registration Packet.
  • Parents who select In-Person Attendance for their child may also choose to complete and return the Registration Packet before the first day of school by printing the Registration Packet (available online) or may pick up a Registration Packet at School.  Click here to access the 2020 Student Registration Packet

 

How do I notify my school that I intend to enroll my child in Home Correspondence Instruction (HCI online)? 

  • If your child will be attending HCI (online) Classes, complete and return the Registration Packet by July 30.  Parents will select the HCI online option on the School Attendance Option Intent Form included in the Registration Packet.  Click here to access the Student Registration Packet.  Registration Packets are also available on your child’s school website to download and print.  
  • Also, paper copies of School Registration Packets will be available for pickup at your child’s school.  Once completed, the Packet may be mailed or dropped off at your child’s school between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

 

May I transfer my child from HCI Online to In-Person?

Yes, parents/guardians may complete a Transfer to In-Person Request at least three school days before the first day of the midterm or beginning of the nine-week grading period.  The midterm and nine-week dates will be posted online.  Click here to access Transfer to In-Person Request Form.

 

May I transfer my child from In-Person Attendance to HCI online? 

Yes, parents/guardians may complete a Transfer to HCI Request for their child to transfer to HCI.   Click here to access Transfer to HCI Request Form.

 

What will In-Person Instruction look like? 

In-Person Attendance will be the traditional instructional model in every way except for the additional practices designed to help safeguard student and staff health as required by the CDC and KDE.  Students will attend school in-person and will receive instruction in the classroom. Students will enjoy a traditional setting and instruction along with the benefits of technology integrated educational resources.    

How will students receive instruction and participate in HCI Online? 

Instruction will be provided online via Google Classroom by your child’s teacher.  Lessons may be accessed via online instructional activities, assignments, recordings, and/or livestream as determined by the curriculum and instructional course design.  If a student does not have access to a device, one may be checked-out from the school. 

 

Will students registered in HCI be permitted to participate in athletics?

Yes. Students enrolled in either the Laurel County Schools HCI / online program or in-person classes are eligible to participate in athletics.

 

What steps will be taken if someone at school becomes diagnosed with COVID-19?

The Laurel County Health Department will conduct Contact Tracing and provide guidance and direction regarding issues related to quarantine, diagnosed COVID-19 cases, and mitigation.
