The National Merit Scholarship Program has selected North Laurel High School senior Matthew Sanders as a finalist in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program, an honor less than one percent of the country's high school seniors achieve!
More than 1.5 million juniors entered the scholarship program by taking the PSAT in 2021. Matthew was selected as a semifinalist in fall 2022. A finalist must have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by their high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test. Merit Scholars are selected based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The 2023 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced this spring.
