Laurel County Public Schools is pleased to announce Amanda Bretz as the new Principal of South Laurel High School. As Assistant Principal at SLHS for the past three years, Mrs. Bretz has been an integral part of the leadership team guiding the school’s ongoing transformation and success. Embodying the South Laurel motto, "Do Your Job," she leads by example—fostering a culture of collaboration, trust, and achievement among staff, families, and community partners.

"South Laurel High School is a special place filled with dedicated educators, inspiring students, and a supportive community. I look forward to building on our strong foundation, fostering academic excellence, and supporting every student's success as we move forward together."
Mrs. Bretz has served the Laurel County School District in several key leadership and teaching roles over the past decade. Her experience includes serving as Assistant Principal at South Laurel High School, District-Level Teacher Leader, and Special Education Teacher at South Laurel High School and Hunter Hills Elementary. She also served as a Special Education teacher at Clay County High School and Manchester Elementary before joining the Laurel County School family.
Mrs. Bretz's extensive academic credentials include a Graduate Certificate in Education Administration from Murray State University, a Graduate Certificate as Director of Special Education from Georgetown College, a Master’s in Learning and Behavior Disorders from the University of the Cumberlands, a Graduate Certificate in Moderate to Severe Disabilities from the University of Kentucky, and a Bachelor’s in Education from Eastern Kentucky University.
Outside of her work, Mrs. Bretz enjoys supporting Southside teams, attending her daughters' sporting events, and camping with her family.
