Students in Mrs. Lawson's Engineering I class at the CFI designed and built dragsters following specific specifications and tolerances. They used computer-aided drafting software to model their dragsters. In a few weeks, the students will have the chance to race their dragsters, and two will compete at the Technology Student Association (TSA) State Competition.

We wanted to give our students, parents, and guardians a quick heads-up that we will be participating in the statewide tornado drill on March 5, 2025 at 10:07 a.m. Students will go to their severe weather shelters during this time, and we will practice our normal severe weather protocols. Our students' safety is our top priority here at the Center For Innovation.

Biomedical students at the Laurel County Schools Center for Innovation stepped into the shoes of healthcare professionals as they role-played Dr./Patient scenarios! This fantastic opportunity allowed students to develop essential skills for effective and respectful communication in a clinical setting. Students learned the importance of empathy while working with patients, recording comprehensive medical histories for fictional patients, and honing their listening skills to interpret verbal and nonverbal cues.

New this year to Laurel County School buses is the installation of Stop Arm cameras. The small cameras, about the size of a cell phone, are located directly below the Stop sign that is activated during a school bus pick-up/ drop-off. The cameras turn on and begin recording when motion is detected during a bus pick-up/drop-off. It is illegal to pass a school bus when the Stop Arm is activated. Student safety is the number one priority for Laurel County Schools. The Laurel County Schools Police Department will be working with the London Police Department and the Laurel County Sheriff's Office to ensure drivers obey the law. We encourage drivers to be alert and aware as Laurel County Schools welcome nearly 9,000 students back to school this Thursday, August 10, 2023. Allow extra time and be prepared for delays the first couple of days.
